Adding a "green shield" to protect the environment and prevent coastal erosion in Hoi An

On May 16, in Cua Dai ward, Hoi An city, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province coordinated with international organizations to inaugurate the project "Supporting the prevention of coastal erosion in Cua Dai through green corridors and coastal ecological parks".

The project includes 3 main items: Planning and construction of Cua Dai coastal green corridor (total length of about 3.2km); construction of Cua Dai coastal ecological park (Au Co park); conservation of wild bird habitat areas in coastal marshes.

The project is supported by the German Government , the German Agency for International Cooperation, and HealthBridge Canada in Vietnam. The funding for the project is nearly 120,000 Euros.

Cua Dai coastal ecological park (Au Co Park) with an area of about 10,000m², is 1 of 3 main items of the project.

Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee spoke at the inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Le Van Dung acknowledged and thanked the cooperation of domestic and international organizations and individuals with local authorities in the fight against climate change, for a green environment and sustainable life for the community.

The completion and putting into use of the project "contributes to preserving Cua Dai beach from the risk of serious erosion and opens up ecological, recreational, and community experience spaces with profoundeducational and humane values, contributing to strengthening the sustainability of Hoi An urban development and improving the quality of life for people", according to Mr. Le Van Dung.

In recent years, Hoi An beach has been seriously eroded. Quang Nam province and Hoi An city have devoted a lot of resources to implementing measures to limit erosion. At the end of March 2025, Quang Nam province continued to start the project to prevent erosion and sustainably protect Hoi An coast with a total investment of 42 million euros (equivalent to 982.2 billion VND). Of which, ODA loans from international organizations are 35 million euros, non-refundable aid is 2 million euros, and counterpart funds are 5 million euros.
