Launching Ceremony of the Pilot Project on Industrial Wastewater Reuse at DEEP C Hai Phong 2 Industrial Park
On November 19, a representative of UNDP Vietnam said that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Vietnam and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have just jointly organized the Launching Ceremony of the Pilot Project on Reusing Industrial Wastewater at DEEP C Hai Phong 2 Industrial Park, within the framework of the Project on Promoting Circular Economy for Enterprises (ACE-Biz).
According to the representative of UNDP Vietnam, the launching ceremony of the pilot wastewater reuse project marks an important step forward in cooperation between state management agencies, development partners and businesses to build a closed-loop model in the treatment and reuse of industrial wastewater.
The project also contributes to promoting resource exchange according to circular economic principles, towards sustainable development and emission reduction in Vietnam.
The highlight is the project applying nanofiltration membrane technology combined with reverse osmosis (RO) technology with a minimum capacity of 1 m³/hour, deployed according to four wastewater treatment technology diagrams combined with pre-treatment. The output water source is designed to meet the standards for reuse purposes.
According to Ms. Francesca Nardini, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Vietnam, the piloting of wastewater reuse technology through four technological schemes will help the industrial park verify the feasibility of technology and treatment costs based on evidence. The pilot project on industrial wastewater reuse will facilitate the formation of an industrial symbiosis model - one of the conditions of an eco-industrial park.
At the same time, the project also contributes to enhancing water security, minimizing environmental impacts and improving competitiveness in terms of sustainability.
In this pilot project, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam plays the role of strategic partner in technical assistance and technology transfer. Ms. Fleur Gribnau - Deputy Head of Economic Section, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands said that the above model clearly demonstrates the strength of multi-stakeholder partnerships.
"The Netherlands - a world leader in innovation in the water sector, brings expertise and strategic support. UNDP coordinates knowledge, supports policy development and technology transfer. Vietnamese agencies and businesses play a key role in practical implementation on the ground. This is the type of cooperation that creates real and sustainable changes," emphasized the Deputy Head of Economic Section, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The pilot project of industrial wastewater reuse at DEEP C Industrial Park is expected to become an important premise for expanding the scale of industrial wastewater reuse to 1,000-1,800 m³/day in the next phase, not only at DEEP C but also other industrial parks in Vietnam.
Within the framework of the event, a training session on water management and wastewater reuse for businesses was held with the participation of professors and experts from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).
Experts updated Vietnam's current regulations and standards on wastewater treatment and reuse, and introduced technical guidelines for developing and implementing wastewater reuse projects.
