High School Graduation Exam Physics: The exam will increase questions related to real-life situations

TPO - For the Physics subject in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, teachers believe that students need to practice their reading comprehension, analysis and information processing skills, and increase the connection between textbook knowledge and real-life applications to do well on this year's exam.

In just a few days, students nationwide will take the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. With the 2018 General Education Program, each candidate will take 4 exams including: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects depending on each person's ability and strengths.

Regarding Physics, subject teachers said that, based on the sample questions announced by the Ministry of Education and Training , this year's exam will have many changes in both structure and format according to the orientation of developing students' abilities.

The subject exam structure consists of 28 questions with a test time of 50 minutes, divided into 3 parts.

Part 1 consists of 18 multiple choice questions. In this part, the questions focus on testing the level of recognition and understanding, without causing difficulties or challenging students.

In part 2, there are 4 multiple choice questions with 4 ideas each. Candidates who answer all 4 questions correctly will get 4 points. These questions can exploit practical exercises, data processing, and a variety of thinking levels in the same question. This type of question requires students to have the ability and solid knowledge to answer all of them, and cannot use tricks to do the test.

Part 3 is a short answer multiple choice test consisting of 6 questions requiring accurate answers in an essay format, focusing on application and high-level application questions.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Tinh, Physics teacher, HOCMAIEducation System, also a lecturer at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, the scope of knowledge of the exam focuses mainly on the 12th grade program, however, it may require the application of knowledge and skills learned from grades 10 and 11 (data processing, reading charts and graphs; Ohm's law, harmonic oscillation, kinetic energy, work - power, deformation, pressure, mass ....).

Some questions may incorporate knowledge outside the curriculum, but will provide all necessary formulas.

Therefore, there is not much time left until the exam, students should combine reviewing knowledge areas with solving questions.

Some common mistakes to avoid

During the teaching process, teachers realized that students often make some mistakes such as: Misidentifying the requirements of the question, errors in calculation and transformation, confusion with Chemistry knowledge...

For example, students incorrectly identify the requirements of the question in situations such as: in the unit section, students skim through the reading so they do not answer correctly the unit of measurement of the physical quantity that needs to be calculated, leading to circling the wrong answer or filling in the wrong value; in the "increase" and "variation" sections, instead of determining the variation of a physical quantity, students only calculate the value of the physical quantity.

Errors in calculation and conversion: students round many intermediate steps, causing the final result to be incorrect; errors in representing exponents, missing parentheses, mistaking signs, or writing significant figures incorrectly.

Some students also often confuse Physics knowledge with Chemistry. For example, under normal conditions, most gases exist in the form of polyatomic molecules, only noble gases exist in the form of monoatomic molecules or use the wrong unit of mass (in Chemistry it is gram, in Physics it is usually kg).

Do not leave answers blank

With only 50 minutes to do the Physics test, candidates need to determine an effective test-taking strategy.

First, after reading the questions, start doing the exercises in order from easy to difficult, from familiar to unfamiliar, avoiding getting bogged down in unfamiliar questions that waste time.

For basic knowledge questions, candidates need to follow the correct review method to do the test. When encountering questions with strange or difficult elements, they need to calmly think or skip them and do them later.

With multiple choice questions, even if you are not sure about some questions after thinking about them, you should not leave them blank but fill in all the answers. Use a pencil to fill in the corresponding boxes on the multiple choice answer sheet. Fill in just enough, not too smudged or too light, avoid filling in the wrong boxes.

With 4 true-false questions, this is the part where candidates only need to get 1 wrong answer in each question to lose 0.5 points, but they should not be so nervous. Read the questions carefully, apply the knowledge learned to determine the answer to the question. You should complete 4 ideas in a question before filling in the answer on the answer sheet.

For the short answer questions that require reading comprehension, calculation, and assessment of students' abilities, students need to be careful, calculate carefully and accurately, and avoid the above errors.

After finishing, candidates spend 5 minutes to check the questions from top to bottom. Note: Candidates, when filling in the short answer, need to pay attention to fill in the correct column, be careful with negative numbers and decimals.

What to study from now until the exam?

According to Mr. Tinh, the 2025 High School Graduation Exam will increase practical questions such as: Life context (photos, practical applications); Scientific context (experiments with models, real data).

Students need to practice reading comprehension, analysis and information processing skills, increase the connection between textbook knowledge and real-life applications, and get familiar with questions describing phenomena or equipment.

The exam can also increase the number of questions integrating many knowledge topics. For example, the problem of electrons moving in a circle under the influence of a magnetic field requires students to apply knowledge about electric fields in grade 11, knowledge about kinematics, energy and circular motion learned in grade 10).

Therefore, to achieve the maximum score, students need to systematize and string together the overall knowledge in the high school program.

However, there is not much time left, students should not be stressed, stay up too late to study. Instead, they need to keep their spirits up, go to bed early, prepare all the necessary materials and important papers including: pens, sharpened pencils, erasers, calculators, exam notices, etc. to be ready for the exam.

The 2025 High School Graduation Exam will take place from June 26-27 with nearly 1.17 million candidates registering to take the exam. This year, the Ministry of Education and Training considers it a special exam with many new features. This is the first year that candidates will take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program with the innovation and reduction to only 4 subjects. In addition, candidates under the 2006 General Education Program will continue to take the exam with their own exam questions.
