Natural disasters cause nearly 1.7 billion VND in damage in Dien Bien

On July 25-26, prolonged heavy rain caused floods, landslides, and inundation in communes and wards of Dien Bien province, with initial estimated damage of nearly 1.7 billion VND.

According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Dien Bien province, the whole province has 57 houses damaged and affected, of which 1 house had to be urgently evacuated (Nam Nhu 3 village, Na Hy commune); 25 houses were damaged by landslides; 31 houses are in landslide risk areas (Cha To commune: 11 houses; Muong Cha commune: 2 houses; Bung Lao commune: 18 houses).

In addition, many traffic and irrigation works in the province were seriously damaged with 685m of road being eroded, causing 3,575m3 of soil and rock to spill onto the road, making it difficult for vehicles to travel; 230m of canal was buried by landslides...

Regarding production, heavy rains have washed away 2,157 hectares of fish ponds in Muong Pon and Muong Phang communes; nearly 15 hectares of rice and corn were flooded, washed away, and eroded...

Irrigation pipeline in Muong Lay ward was washed away by flood.

In Si Pa Phin commune, a local truck was swept down a 3-meter deep stream, due to being parked overnight near the stream embankment on weak ground, causing a landslide. Na Hy commune recorded a communal cultural house with a 10-meter long slope collapse; a Kama 178 tractor was buried... The total initial damage was estimated at nearly 1.7 billion VND.

After the disaster occurred, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of the communes organized and assigned forces to review and assess the extent of damage and inspect the landslide route and notify and propagate to people to avoid risks, mobilize people to temporarily fix the problem to ensure traffic safety, repair houses, restore production and soon stabilize life.

As for Na Hy commune, it coordinated with Border Guard Station 415 and mobilized forces to support the dismantling and relocation of an entire house to a safe location, ensuring no human casualties.

With 18 houses at risk of landslides in Bung Lao commune, the Commune's Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue has directed forces to coordinate with the people to regularly monitor and prepare to evacuate people and property when ordered.
