We came to the Ho Chi Minh Temple Relic Site in Long Duc Commune, Tra Vinh City, Tra Vinh Province in late May. This place is called "the work of the heart" by the locals because of the sacred meaning of its formation, the process of fighting to defend it tenaciously and the spiritual value of the temple. Over 4km from the center of Tra Vinh City, the Ho Chi Minh Temple Relic Site is located in a green area of 5.3 hectares. The first impression when coming to the temple for many people will be the image with many features of Hanoi in the Southern land, from simple thatched roofs to stilt houses, fish ponds like where Uncle Ho lived in Hanoi,...
Inside Uncle Ho's temple
Documents at the relic site show that the temple was built during the most fierce and intense period of the resistance war against the US to save the country. The temple to Uncle Ho was built by Tra Vinh people amidst bombs and bullets, completed on January 24, 1971, after nearly 1 year of construction. In September 1969, Tra Vinh people heard the news of Uncle Ho's death. Without anyone telling them, each family set up an altar and offered incense to commemorate Uncle Ho every day. Understanding the wishes of the people, in early 1970, the Long Duc Commune Party Committee met and agreed on many major policies, including the construction of a temple to worship Uncle Ho. Due to enemy attacks, the temple could not be completed on September 2, 1970 as planned. Undaunted, the people here still contributed to building the temple. The temple is a symbol of the people's respect and gratitude for the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh . On September 5, 1989, this place was recognized as a National Historical - Cultural Relic and has been restored and preserved to this day.
The grounds of the Uncle Ho Temple relic site are covered with green trees.
The relic site has main items: Uncle Ho's temple, exhibition house of his life and career, green campus, fish pond, camping area,... especially the model of Uncle Ho's stilt house designed according to the original Uncle Ho's stilt house at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. Coming to the relic site, visitors are immediately attracted by the saying: "The beloved South is always in my heart" of President Ho Chi Minh solemnly engraved next to the wooden statue of Uncle Ho in the middle of the exhibition area of images and artifacts about his life and revolutionary career.
In his guestbook at the Uncle Ho Temple in 1991, General Vo Nguyen Giap wrote: "Uncle Ho Temple, the immortal symbol, the steadfast heart of the Southern people towards the great President Ho Chi Minh".
On holidays and Tet, especially Uncle Ho's birthday on May 19 and his death anniversary on September 2, many delegations of workers, civil servants, students from the Western provinces organize trips to visit the temple and pay their respects to Uncle Ho. The temple has also become a "red address"to educate the younger generation about traditions./.
