On April 25, Turkish police announced the arrest of 110 people in an anti-terrorism operation in 21 provinces, including Diyarbakir province with a large Kurdish population.
Turkish media reported that police have arrested people suspected of funding the Kurdistan Workers' Party ( PKK ) or recruiting new members for the PKK.
The Diyarbakir Bar Association said the number of people arrested could be as high as 150. The anti -terror operation comes weeks before Turkey holds presidential elections on May 14.
The PKK has been engaged in armed clashes with Turkish forces for more than three decades. The Turkish government, the US and the European Union (EU) consider the PKK a terrorist organization./.
