Repair technicians share tips to save your iPhone 13 Pro Max screen.

Recently, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screens have been experiencing display issues, showing only blue, white, or pink colors, but Apple has yet to announce the official reason. With warranty claims becoming difficult, users are left with no choice but to replace the screen, incurring costs of around 8-10 million VND.

Recently, some repair technicians in China posted videos discussing this issue and how to fix it. This content quickly gained popularity among iPhone repair technicians in Vietnam, who successfully applied the solution at a much lower cost and with simpler steps compared to replacing the entire screen. According to Mr. QH, the owner of a phone repair shop in Ho Chi Minh City, the cause of the white screen is a damaged screen connector – the area connecting the connector to the circuit board, which transmits signals to the screen.

Two copper wires are connected to the circuit board beneath the iPhone screen to "borrow voltage," helping to fix display errors.

"Previously, when the iPhone issue first appeared, many people tried pressing or replacing the connector cable, but no one succeeded because the circuit was too deeply burned, while the circuit lines were so small that the soldering iron couldn't reach them," QH said. He believes the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screen issue stems from the excessively high 120Hz refresh rate, which generates a lot of heat during prolonged use, causing the connector cable to burn and break.

To save the machine, the technician proceeded to "connect" the two electrical circuits behind the screen with a copper wire, a process often referred to as "borrowing voltage," although the exact location of the wire was not disclosed.

"This type of wiring is intended to transfer the signal path from one side of the circuit to the other. If one path fails, the signal is routed through another path. However, it's impossible to do this directly on the cable neck because the soldering iron tip and wire are too large for the size of the circuit board," a technician further explained.

However, this may only be a temporary solution because, to date, no technician is certain how long the wiring method will keep the machine running before the problem recurs. "The problem of the fire under the cable is not completely solved by wiring; it's only a temporary fix," Mr. QH emphasized.

Regarding costs, many repair shops currently offer the aforementioned wiring repair method, with prices ranging from 500,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND. Compared to the cost of replacing the entire screen, this remains a more economical option for consumers at the moment.

However, this can also pose risks for users later on. In Vietnam, used iPhones are always a popular item, especially newer models. Buying and selling used devices is mainly based on trust between the two parties involved in the transaction. Buyers often lack the skills to check the device's components in detail, only testing the features as long as they function fully as designed.

"It's difficult to avoid situations where buyers of used iPhones are unaware that the device they intend to purchase previously had a screen defect and was cleverly repaired by rewiring. Meanwhile, sellers want to quickly get rid of it to avoid potential risks and instability," a technology expert commented.

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screen issues also appear on the newly released iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, but at a lower rate. Authorized service centers in Vietnam have recently been overwhelmed due to the large number of faulty devices, causing a shortage of parts and forcing users to wait for the manufacturer to import more. Warranty service times have extended from the standard 2 weeks to 3 or 4 weeks depending on the time.
