Recently, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screens have been showing a display error, with only blue, white or pink remaining, but Apple has yet to officially announce the reason. While product warranty is becoming difficult, users only have the option of replacing the screen, accepting the cost of about 8 - 10 million VND.
Recently, some repairmen in China posted a video talking about this error and how to fix it. The above content was quickly followed by many iPhone repairmen in Vietnam and successfully applied at a much cheaper cost and also simpler than replacing a new screen. According to Mr. QH, the owner of a phone repair shop in Ho Chi Minh City, the cause of the white screen is due to a damaged screen cable neck - the area connecting the cable neck and the circuit, which plays a role in transmitting signals to the screen.
The two ends of the copper wire are connected to the circuit board below the iPhone screen to "borrow voltage", helping to fix display errors.
"Previously, when the error first appeared on the iPhone, many people tried to squeeze or replace the new cable neck, but no one was successful because the circuit was burned too deep, while the circuit line was super small, the soldering tip could not reach it," QH said. He determined that the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screen error originated from the 120 Hz scan frequency being too high, causing a lot of heat to be generated during long-term use, causing the cable neck to burn and break.
To save the machine, the technician proceeded to "hook" a copper wire connecting the two circuits behind the screen together, commonly known as "borrowing voltage", however the location of the wire was not specifically disclosed.
"This wire is used to transfer the signal line from one side of the circuit to the other. If this line is damaged, it can be transferred to another line. However, it cannot be done directly on the cable neck because the soldering tip and wire are too large compared to the size of the circuit board," a technical expert further explained.
However, this may be a temporary solution because up to now, no technician is sure how long the wire-splicing method can help the machine operate before the problem returns. "The problem of fire under the cable neck is not completely solved by wire-splicing, it is only a temporary measure," Mr. QH emphasized.
Regarding cost, there are currently many parties that accept repairs using the above mentioned wiring method with costs ranging from 500,000 VND to 2 million VND. Compared to the amount of money spent to replace a new screen, this is still an economical choice for consumers at the present time.
But this can also pose risks to users later. In Vietnam, used iPhones are always popular, especially new models. Buying and selling used devices is mainly based on trust between the two parties in the transaction, buyers have little skill in checking the device's components in detail, but only test the features, as long as they work fully as designed.
"It will be difficult to avoid the case that the buyer of the old phone does not know that the iPhone they intend to own once had a screen error and was cleverly wired to fix it. Meanwhile, the seller wants to quickly transfer the phone to avoid risks and instability that can happen at any time," said a technology expert.
The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max screen errors also appear on the new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max generation, but at a lower rate. Authorized warranty centers in Vietnam have recently been overloaded due to the large number of faulty devices, causing a shortage of components, forcing users to wait for the company to import more. The warranty period has been extended from 2 weeks (standard) to 3 or 4 weeks depending on the time.
