For flower growers, each Lunar New Year flower season brings high expectations due to its high value and large market demand. However, this year, erratic weather is causing many difficulties for flower growers.

According to farmers in Da Nang's flower-growing regions, this year's weather has been more unpredictable than usual. Heavy rains have significantly impacted the growth of flowers, while sudden bursts of heat have caused thermal shock, resulting in premature and uneven blooming.

The unpredictable weather has made caring for the plants very difficult. Many types of flowers have bloomed earlier than expected, forcing gardeners to find ways to change the environment so that the flowers bloom at the right time for the Lunar New Year.

Mr. Huynh Tinh, a flower farmer in Hoa Lien commune, said: "We have invested a whole year in the Tet flower crop, but the changing weather like this makes it very difficult to care for the plants. If we don't fix it in time, the risk of losing the entire crop is very high."

“This is the crucial stage for flower development, so we need to understand the proper fertilization process, choosing the right fertilizer for the flowers, and then spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases. The current unpredictable weather with alternating rain and sunshine is causing us flower growers a lot of worry,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Lai, a flower grower.

To cope with the unusual weather conditions, farmers have had to strengthen measures to protect their flowers. Some households have erected additional rain shelters and installed automatic irrigation systems to regulate the amount of water accordingly.

Many types of flowers, such as petunias, evening primroses, marigolds, and begonias, have bloomed early.

Many gardeners pinch off the flower tips, fertilize the plants, and pot them for care, hoping they will grow as expected.

With just over a month left until Tet (Lunar New Year), flower farmers in Da Nang city are working hard, closely monitoring the weather, hoping everything will go smoothly to produce the most beautiful flower gardens to serve customers celebrating Tet.
