Also attending the meeting, on the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there were representatives of the leaders of the following units: Department of Foreign Market Development, Department of Oil, Gas and Coal, Department of Trade Promotion, Department of Import and Export.

On the Algerian side, there were Mr. Khaled Bourenan and Mr. Mahfoud Haounes, two Vice Presidents of the Algeria - Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, along with a number of parliamentarians, leaders of departments of the Algerian Parliament and representatives of the Algerian Embassy in Vietnam.

Expressing his pleasure at welcoming the Chairman of the Algeria - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group to work at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan highly appreciated the role and position of Algeria as one of the leading economies in North Africa, a potential market with great demand for imported goods, affirming that Algeria is one of Vietnam's important partners in this region.

The Deputy Minister said that trade relations between the two countries have shown signs of improvement since the first months of 2025. Of which, Vietnam's export turnover to Algeria reached nearly 150 million USD, an increase of over 100% over the same period in 2024. This is an important premise for the two countries to promote economic and trade cooperation on the basis of promoting the strengths of each economy.

Vietnam wishes to strengthen oil and gas cooperation with Algeria, especially in the provision of oil and gas services. In return, Algeria can study stable sources of supply from Vietnam for food products, seafood, processed foods, consumer goods, construction materials, etc.

Thanking Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan for his warm welcome, MP Saleh Djeghloul, Chairman of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group, especially emphasized the good relationship between the two countries built from the years of fighting for independence, affirming that Algeria always has deep affection for Vietnam, focusing on promoting cooperation between the Algerian Parliament and the Vietnamese National Assembly . Algeria is making efforts to reform policies, reduce dependence on oil and gas exports, create an open investment environment to attract foreign investors, and improve domestic production capacity.

In addition to oil and gas, Algeria is also known as a country rich in mineral resources, such as iron ore (Algeria has iron mines with the largest reserves in the world), and has many famous agricultural products such as olives, dates, etc. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group hopes that Vietnamese enterprises will actively pay attention and study the possibility of investment cooperation in the industrial sector in Algeria.

Agreeing with the views of MP Saleh Djeghloul, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan suggested that the two sides should continue to coordinate closely to further promote cooperation activities, specifically: (i) Regarding the legal framework, the Algerian side should provide feedback on the amendment of the Bilateral Trade Agreement signed in 1994 proposed by the Vietnamese side to facilitate import and export activities between the two countries; (ii) Regarding trade promotion, the two sides should actively encourage businesses to participate in networking activities and major international events held in each country; the Vietnamese side welcomes Algerian business delegations to attend the International Supply Chain Connection Exhibition (from September 4 to 6, 2025), the International Food Industry Exhibition (from November 12 to 15, 2025)...; (iii) Regarding energy cooperation, it is recommended that Algeria facilitate and support the stable and effective operation of the oil and gas joint venture project; at the same time, continue to introduce and facilitate PVN to access other potential projects in Algeria.

Appreciating the comments of Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, MP Saleh Djeghloul said that the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group is ready to act as a bridge and coordinate to promote the proposals of the Vietnamese side, contributing to deepening the good political and diplomatic relations between the two countries./.
