This congress of ethnic minorities in Khanh Hoa province has the theme “Equality, solidarity, innovation, integration and development of ethnic people in Khanh Hoa province”. After the preparation period yesterday, October 10, this morning the congress officially opened with many important contents.
In his opening speech, Mr. Vo Nam Thang - Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Khanh Hoa province, said: The history of the formation and development of the province is closely linked to the process of settling of ethnic groups from many different regions here. Currently, Khanh Hoa province has 35 ethnic groups, each with its own cultural identity, creating a culturally diverse community, rich in identity and contributing to the formation of the cultural characteristics of Khanh Hoa province today.
Khanh Hoa province is located in the center of the South Central Coast provinces, bordering Phu Yen province to the North, Ninh Thuan province to the South, Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces to the West, and the East Sea to the East; with a natural area of 5,199.6 km2 (including islands and archipelagos). Khanh Hoa province is located close to the Truong Son mountain range, most of the area is hills and mountains, accounting for about 90% of the total area of the province. Khanh Hoa province's population is 1,425,698 people, with over 82,000 people from 35 ethnic minorities living and working, accounting for 5.8% of the province's total population.
Of which, the Raglai ethnic group is the largest, accounting for 77.62%, Co Ho accounts for 7.96%, E De accounts for 5.22%, Hoa accounts for 2.74%, Tay accounts for 2.34%, Nung accounts for 1.38%, other ethnic groups account for 2.74%. Ethnic minorities mainly reside in mountainous areas of Khanh Son district, Khanh Vinh district and some mountainous communes of Cam Lam district, Dien Khanh district, Ninh Hoa town, Cam Ranh city. In addition, a small number of Hoa, Tay, Thai... people live in the plains, coastal areas and urban areas of Nha Trang city, Cam Ranh city.
“Over the past years, thanks to the correct policies of the Party and State on ethnic affairs and implementation of ethnic policies; along with the unceasing efforts of Party committees and local authorities, combined with the efforts of ethnic minorities themselves... the socio-economic situation in ethnic minority areas has made great strides, the rural appearance of ethnic minority and mountainous areas has improved a lot, and the socio-economic infrastructure has been gradually improved,” said Mr. Thang.
According to Mr. Thang, the rural areas and ethnic minority areas of the province have changed a lot, people have boldly changed their way of thinking and doing things. Since then, there have been more and more typical examples of progress from ethnic minority children in studying, researching, working, producing, doing business, building and defending the Fatherland.
This time, the Congress of Ethnic Minorities of Khanh Hoa province has the task of comprehensively assessing ethnic work and implementing the policy of great national unity in the period of 2019 - 2024. At the same time, it sets out goals, directions and tasks for the period of 2024 - 2029 to successfully implement the main theme of the Congress, which is "Ethnic people of Khanh Hoa province are equal, united, innovative, integrated and developed".
This is also an opportunity to recognize, honor and commend the great contributions of ethnic minorities in the cause of innovation, construction and development of the country, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, joining hands to build new rural areas, maintaining political security and social order and safety... At the same time, it is also an opportunity for ethnic minorities in the province to exchange, learn, build a spirit of solidarity, cohesion, and sharing to integrate and develop sustainably together.
