Prime Minister directs urgent support of 200 billion VND and 100 tons of rice for Dien Bien

On the evening of August 3, after a field inspection, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an urgent meeting on flood relief in Dien Bien. The Prime Minister decided to immediately provide 200 billion VND and 100 tons of rice and asked the Vietnam Fatherland Front to provide housing support.

On the evening of August 3, after inspecting the field in Dien Bien province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting with local leaders, ministries and armed forces. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the condolences of General Secretary To Lam and leaders of the Party and State to the government and people of Dien Bien province.

The Prime Minister commended Dien Bien province for proactively mobilizing local forces to overcome the consequences of the floods. He also welcomed relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Dien Bien Power Company, for promptly restoring power. However, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that in all situations, the safety of people and officials must be put first.

Regarding support solutions, the Prime Minister agreed to provide emergency support of VND200 billion and 100 tons of rice to Dien Bien province. The Prime Minister also asked the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to balance funds to support people rebuilding their houses. Specifically, support of VND100 million per house will be provided for 80 houses that were completely swept away and VND30 million per house for 241 houses that were severely damaged. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: "Housing is the most important issue for people to stabilize."

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to closely coordinate and quickly deploy the recovery work. He also requested Dien Bien province to review and implement policies for families with victims according to regulations. Responding to the call, at the meeting, many units announced support for Dien Bien province, specifically: the Ministry of Health donated 1 billion VND from the Vietnam Private Hospital Association, Viettel Group announced a donation of 10 billion VND, VNPT Group announced a donation of 5 billion VND and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) donated 1 billion VND.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that schools be urgently cleaned up so that students can return to school on September 5. He stated: "Schools affected by storms and floods must be urgently cleaned up so that by September 5, when children can return to school, there must be schools and classrooms."

In addition, the Prime Minister also directed the health system to ensure environmental sanitation. The Ministry of Construction focused on improving traffic. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment handled the issue of clean water. Telecommunications and electricity corporations must ensure communication and electricity supply. In the long term, the Prime Minister asked the province to restructure crops and livestock and re-plan residential areas to suit the new situation.
