Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on June 15 ruled out the possibility of dissolving the House of Representatives during the current parliamentary session, which is expected to last until next week.

The statement came as the main opposition party plans to submit a motion of no confidence in Mr. Kishida's Cabinet.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Kishida emphasized that his government 's role is to "resolve the challenges that have been delayed until now" and from that perspective, "I am not thinking of dissolving the House of Representatives at the end of the current Diet session."

Some political experts predict Mr. Kishida could dissolve the Lower House in the fall after reshuffling the Cabinet, something some former Japanese prime ministers have often done to refresh their government's image.

Experts say the timing of the dissolution of the House of Representatives could be pushed back if support for Mr. Kishida's Cabinet shows signs of increasing.

Earlier the same day, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDPJ) expressed its intention to submit a no-confidence motion against Kishida's Cabinet on June 16 to protest the government's policies, including a bill to secure funds to strengthen defense capabilities.

However, experts say this move is likely to fail because it does not receive support from the majority ruling coalition. However, the CDPJ's decision has attracted public attention because it could force Mr. Kishida to dissolve the House of Representatives.

By law, the current four-year term of the House of Representatives will end in October 2025./.
