(HNMO) - On the evening of May 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairman of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Joko Widodo, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit from May 9 to 11, 2023 in Labuan Bajo (Indonesia).
The 42nd ASEAN Summit (ASEM) was attended by ASEAN Leaders and the ASEAN Secretary-General. The Prime Minister of Timor Leste was invited to attend the ASEAN Summit for the first time as an observer.
The 42nd ASEAN Summit will focus on discussing many issues. The plenary session will discuss the process of building the ASEAN community, focusing on the theme “ASEAN in Stature: The Heart of Growth”. At the retreat, the leaders will discuss international and regional issues of common concern.
At the dialogue sessions with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Youth, ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN leaders will discuss issues of common concern, encourage active participation and substantial contributions of member parliaments, youth representatives, and the ASEAN business community to the process of building the ASEAN community, enhance understanding and cohesion among peoples, build identity and community awareness, and contribute to the realization of a people-oriented, people-centered ASEAN Community.
At the dialogue session with the High Level Task Force (HLTF), ASEAN leaders will discuss and provide guidance on building the ASEAN Community Vision after 2025, towards a united and self-reliant ASEAN with the capacity to respond effectively and adapt flexibly to rapid movements in the world and the region.
Before that, the Ministerial Conference of the Community pillars will hold a preparatory meeting, specifically: the Political-Security Community Council will meet on May 9, 2023 in Labuan Bajo; the Economic Community Council will meet on May 7, 2023 in Jakarta; and the Socio-Cultural Community Council will meet on May 9, 2023 in Bali.
