Prime Minister receives leaders of leading Chinese economic groups

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the morning of May 21, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Chau Gia Nghia, President of Asia-Pacific of Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) and a group of contractors and cooperation partners in Vietnam.

Congratulating and appreciating the technological and business achievements of PowerChina Group globally as well as its activities in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam and China are two friendly neighboring countries, "both comrades and brothers", comprehensive strategic cooperative partners, and are building a "Community of Shared Future", which is a favorable environment, a good foundation and an opportunity for businesses of the two countries to strengthen substantive and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Informing that Vietnam is focusing on implementing three strategic breakthroughs, including breakthroughs in infrastructure development, including transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure, digital transformation infrastructure, including infrastructure connecting with China, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that PowerChina Group will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese partners in the fields of clean energy, strategic infrastructure, especially standard gauge railways, urban railways, including the Hai Phong - Hanoi - Lao Cai railway to connect with Kunming - Chongqing and to European countries.

PowerChina Group's Asia-Pacific President Zhou Jiayi said that PowerChina currently operates in more than 130 countries, in five main areas: Water conservancy-hydropower, electric power, urban infrastructure, mining and digitalization. In 2024, the revenue will reach more than 100 billion USD, ranking 108th among the 500 largest enterprises in the world.

PowerChina has been present in Vietnam since the 2000s, participating in the construction of more than 100 energy projects, infrastructure projects, seaports... In 2024, PowerChina signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FECON Joint Stock Company, Lung Lo Construction Corporation, Song Da Corporation-JSC, Thang Long Corporation-JSC to establish the CVRail Group to jointly research and participate in key national railway projects. The total revenue value in 2024 of Vietnamese companies in the Group is about 22 trillion VND.

With experience in participating in and constructing a total length of more than 2,000 km of railway, PowerChina wishes to cooperate with 4 Vietnamese enterprises to participate in implementing railway projects in Vietnam, first of all the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, with a commitment to ensure progress, quality and effective cost control for the project, as well as sharing technical and management experience with Vietnamese partners.

In addition, with the stature of the 7th largest contractor in the world in the energy sector, PowerChina Group wishes to continue to cooperate and invest in developing renewable energy in Vietnam and other infrastructure sectors.

The Prime Minister welcomed PowerChina's cooperation plan with Vietnamese partners; expressed support for the Group's investment and business policy in Vietnam in the railway sector; and reiterated that China has cooperated and supported Vietnam in many fields, with many projects still being effective.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam encourages large and prestigious Chinese corporations and enterprises to invest and develop in the fields of railway infrastructure in Vietnam, first of all the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway; and proposed that PowerChina cooperate and support Vietnam in developing the railway industry, transferring technology, science and technology, training high-quality human resources, management science, and operational solutions in the railway sector, etc.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam has just issued Resolutions on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and private economic development, with many breakthrough, open and preferential mechanisms and policies; requested PowerChina Group to support Vietnamese enterprises to participate in PowerChina's global supply chain and transfer technology to Vietnamese enterprises such as Viettel and Petrovietnam, especially technology for manufacturing wind engines (turbines) and solar panels; cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises such as Lung Lo and Song Da to survey and develop energy projects, especially wind power in the northern provinces of Vietnam.

Proposing to promote the spirit of "looking far, looking wide, thinking deeply, doing big", Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that PowerChina can, through Vietnamese enterprises, expand its market to countries in the Southeast Asian region and other regions.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that, with the motto of "harmonious benefits, shared risks", considering the success of enterprises as the success of Vietnam, the Government and ministries, branches and localities of Vietnam always accompany, support, protect and ensure the legitimate and legal rights and interests of foreign investors in Vietnam, including PowerChina Group and Chinese enterprises in implementing investment, operating successful, effective, mutually beneficial projects and complying with Vietnamese laws./.
