During the two days of September 30 - October 1, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee organized the event "Techconnect and Innovation VietNam 2024" with the theme "Promoting innovation - Driving force for fast and sustainable socio-economic development". This is an important event to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Science and Technology (1959-2024) and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (1954-2024).
Hanoi is a bright spot of science, technology and innovation in the region.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that looking back at the development path over the past years, we can be proud that Vietnam has made great strides in international rankings. According to the Global Innovation Index (GII) Report of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2024, Vietnam is currently ranked 44/133 countries, maintaining its leading position in the group of lower-middle income countries. Over the past 10 years, our ranking has increased by more than 30 places, a clear demonstration of the determination of the Party, State and business community in promoting science, technology and innovation.
According to the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Vietnam will rank 67th in 2023, a significant improvement compared to previous years. In particular, Vietnam's criteria for macroeconomic stability and innovation capacity are highly appreciated. Our goal is that by 2030, Vietnam will be in the top 50 in GCI and top 40 in GII, contributing to affirming the country's position on the world technology map.
According to the Minister, science, technology and innovation (S&I) have been playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country. In key areas such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, education and industry, S&I is not only the main driving force to improve productivity and sustainable growth, but also helps create new business models, enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises and the country in the international arena.
The Minister stated that Hanoi is not only a political center but also a bright spot for science, technology and innovation in the region. With important steps in building the Hoa Lac high-tech park, Hanoi has attracted more than 300 investment projects in high-tech fields, with a total registered investment capital of more than 8 billion USD. In addition, Hanoi has pioneered in developing smart urban areas, integrating AI technology, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) into urban infrastructure management, transportation and healthcare, contributing to creating breakthroughs in the city's competitiveness.
“In that context, the Vietnam Technology and Innovation Connection 2024 event held in Hanoi with the theme “Promoting innovation - Driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development” is one of the oriented activities of the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote the application, transfer of technology and innovation for industries, organizations and enterprises in Hanoi in particular and the whole country in general, thereby improving productivity, quality and competitiveness of enterprises' goods, creating conditions for scientists to apply their results to production and business, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country”, said the Minister.
The Minister affirmed that 2024 is a year of special significance in implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution on the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021-2025 of the National Assembly. Vietnam is implementing the 10-year socio-economic development strategy 2021-2030, in which science, technology and innovation are identified as the foundation for Vietnam to develop rapidly and sustainably.

On that basis, the Minister hopes to continue receiving the coordination of departments, ministries, branches, localities, businesses and scientists nationwide to enhance the connection and unity in the strategic vision of developing an innovation system in which businesses play a central role; university research institutes are strong research subjects; promote the socialization of investment resources for science, technology and innovation, especially resources from businesses.
At the same time, deploy solutions to develop a synchronous, effective and integrated science and technology market: strengthen close connections between producers, enterprises, localities and research units, and mobilize various resources (domestic and foreign) to support the application, transfer of technology and innovation in enterprises; Expand technology supply-demand connection activities to a number of developed countries to enhance technology transfer, mastery and development from abroad to Vietnam in priority sectors and fields.
Many specialized activities on technology and innovation
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Techconnect and Innovation VietNam 2024 will be organized on a national scale, including many specialized activities on technology and innovation; focusing on areas that are attracting the attention of society and businesses, with the participation of ministries, branches, localities, large enterprises, research institutes, universities, organizations and individuals at home and abroad. The event will attract from 2,500 to 3,000 direct attendees and 7,000 to 10,000 online attendees, along with a large-scale technology demonstration space.
The event will introduce and demonstrate new domestic and foreign technological achievements applied to production and business in many industries and fields. In particular, discussions will focus on solving difficulties and obstacles and promoting technology application, transfer and innovation; strengthening the connection between enterprises, research organizations and state management agencies; connecting solutions, technology and finance for enterprises with the need to apply, transfer, develop and master technology.
The event includes main activities: A series of in-depth forums on technology: Technology management policies for socio-economic development; Technology in agriculture and rural development, healthcare, construction; Promoting high-tech investment; Seminar on the role of innovation for enterprises in the capital; Conference on application, technology transfer and local innovation; Demonstration and introduction of technological achievements, connecting technology supply and demand with 200 enterprises.
Along with that, the event is organized to become an important platform connecting parties in the national innovation system and the national creative startup ecosystem. Enterprises will have the opportunity to search, exchange, and select advanced technologies to apply and transfer to help improve productivity, product quality and competitiveness in the market.
Universities and research institutes can promote cooperation, seek business partners to promote technology transfer and apply research results to production and business practices. Individuals and groups of individuals will have the opportunity to identify and select creative startup ideas, connect with investors based on assessing the practical needs of businesses and the market. Technology businesses, universities, and research institutes will also have the opportunity to demonstrate and introduce new technologies, new products, and new business models to connect with interested partners.
Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024 will contribute to promoting economic growth model innovation through the application of science, technology and innovation. This will contribute to the effective implementation of national policies on industrialization, modernization, digital transformation, development of science, technology and innovation, contributing to rapid and sustainable socio-economic development./.
