This competition is not only a creative playground, but also an opportunity for students to express their views and solutions to global issues such as mental health and climate change through the application of micro:bit microcontroller technology. This activity is part of the project "Learning and Skills for Children 2022-2026", aiming to promote STEM education, develop digital skills and nurture creative thinking for secondary school students in Kon Tum province.

The event marks an important step forward in the implementation of the Project "Discovering technology with micro:bit", which will be officially implemented by the Departmentof Education and Training of Kon Tum province from 2024 at 10 educational institutions in Kon Tum city and Ngoc Hoi district.

Leaders of Kon Tum Province Department of Education and Training visited and gave instructions to the competing teams.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province Dinh Thi Lan emphasized: “The contest is an opportunity for students to practice important 21st century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and teamwork. Through designing creative products, students not only approach technology intuitively but also learn how to apply it in practice to solve urgent social problems.”

The competition attracted the participation of 10 educational institutions that have implemented the Project. The products were all researched and assembled by the students themselves, focusing on two main topics: mental health and climate change.

The organizers require that the products must be safe, environmentally friendly and have practical applications. Students can participate individually or in groups (maximum 3 members), provided that they clearly demonstrate the role and contribution of each member.

Notably, the product display area at the Competition was designed vividly, reflecting the identity of each unit. Each school not only brought products to the competition but also introduced initiatives implemented during the implementation of the Project, contributing to spreading the spirit of creativity and innovation in education.

Ms. Vu Kim Chi, Education Program Officer of UNICEF in Vietnam, highly appreciated Kon Tum's efforts in implementing the Project: "We are committed to accompanying the local education sector in building a creative learning environment, helping students develop digital skills, understand technology and be socially responsible. Today's competition is a testament to positive innovation in education, connecting knowledge with action for the community."

Many students came to visit and experience the products of the competing teams.

In addition to the official participating units, the Competition also has the participation of teachers and managers from non-project units to exchange and learn from each other’s experiences. This is an opportunity to share experiences and improve the capacity of organizing STEM education activities in the whole industry.

Ly Tu Trong Pedagogical Practice Secondary School, the host, carefully prepared the facilities, along with a team of teachers and students participating in cheering, creating an exciting atmosphere, contributing to adding motivation to the competing teams.

The contest "Creating with micro:bit" is not only an innovative educational activity but also demonstrates the right direction of Kon Tum's education sector in linking education with sustainable development.

Bringing topics like mental health and climate change into schools through technology helps students gain a deeper understanding of their global citizenship responsibilities, while also sparking a passion for science and technology from an early age.
