Notes on body temperature in children and the elderly
When it comes to differences in body temperature in common groups, especially in the hot season, Dr. Phoi Hien said: "In children, the body's thermoregulation system is not yet complete, making them more susceptible to dehydration and increased body temperature than adults. Meanwhile, the elderly's body regulates sweat poorly, leading to a higher risk of dehydration and heat stroke. As for adults, they have better temperature regulation but are still at risk of dehydration, fatigue and physical decline when exposed to heat for too long."
From there, the doctor gave some nutritional notes for two groups: children and the elderly as follows:
For children . Increase water-rich foods such as fruits, green vegetables, and thin porridge. Limit greasy foods and spicy foods to avoid affecting the digestive system. Supplement enough water and electrolyte water, limit carbonated soft drinks. Encourage the use of yogurt and fruit smoothies to strengthen the immune system.
For the elderly. Eat lots of green vegetables and fruits, limit foods high in protein and fat to reduce pressure on the digestive system. Drink enough water (1.5-2 liters/day or depending on the level and working environment), avoid drinking too much ice water. Use easily digestible foods such as porridge, soup, vegetable soup, yogurt to maintain the immune system. Drink more herbal teas such as ginger tea, chamomile tea to support circulation and soothe the nerves.
"The hot season has a great impact on health, especially for children and the elderly. Choosing the right food not only helps the body regulate temperature but also increases resistance, reducing the risk of diseases caused by the weather. In addition to a reasonable diet, people need to maintain healthy living habits such as drinking enough water, avoiding direct exposure to the sun and resting properly to protect their health during the hot summer days," Dr. Phoi Hien advised.
