( Bqp.vn ) – On the morning of October 18, Air Defense Artillery Regiment (PPK) 240, Division 363, Air Defense - Air Force (PK-KQ) held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its Traditional Day (October 20, 1954 - October 20, 2024). Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense attended and presented flowers to congratulate the 70th anniversary of the Traditional Day of PPK Regiment 240.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Quyen congratulated and commended the outstanding achievements of the PPK 240 Regiment over the past 70 years; at the same time, he requested that in the coming time, the PPK 240 Regiment continue to thoroughly grasp the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, especially the Resolution of the 13th Central Committee on the strategy of defending the Fatherland in the new situation, the tasks of the Army, Service, Division and unit; thoroughly grasp and well perform the task of combat readiness, firmly manage the assigned airspace; participate in drills, live-fire exercises, ensuring absolute safety.

The commemorative speech presented by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quyet Tien, Commander of the PPK240 Regiment at the ceremony stated that, in response to the task of protecting the Fatherland's sky in the new revolutionary period; on September 21, 1954, the General Command issued a decision to establish the 367th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment, including the 689th Regiment (the first designation of the present PPK240 Regiment). On October 20, 1954, in Phan village, Dinh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, the Regiment held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish. In December 1955, the Regiment was mobilized to participate in protecting the newly liberated city of Hai Phong . In 1958, the General Command signed a decision to separate the 367th Regiment from the Artillery Command to establish the Air Defense Command under the Ministry of National Defense and changed the designation of the 689th Regiment to the PPK240 Regiment. From then on, the Regiment was honored to be named Doan Thanh To - the alias of comrade To Hieu, a staunch communist and an outstanding revolutionary leader of our Party.

With its outstanding achievements in combat and construction, in 1984, the Regiment was awarded the Second Class Military Exploit Medal by the President of the State Council. In particular, on August 29, 1985, the PPK 240 Regiment was honored by the Party and the State as a Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces. Along with that, the Regiment was awarded hundreds of orders and medals of various types by the Party, the State and the Army and received the rotating flag of "Best Learning Unit" from President Ho Chi Minh; many officers and soldiers were awarded medals and other noble titles.
