Potential for agricultural exports to Australia

Through trade promotion activities, it is shown that Australia does not grow coffee and is among the top 30 coffee consuming countries in the world, becoming one of the special advantages for processed coffee lines exported from the vast raw material area of ​​Vietnam. In addition, the product lines of vegetables, tubers, fruits, durian, frozen avocado from Lam Dong promoted and imported into the Australian market have been assessed as having great potential.

In recent years, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) has selected agricultural products that meet quality and standards in Lam Dong province to send to the Vietnam Business Association in Australia for display, introduction and investment cooperation, including: coffee, rice, cashew nuts, pepper, cocoa, cordyceps tea, artichoke extract, tea bags, lingzhi mushrooms, dried agricultural products... Up to now, there have been 2 direct investment projects from Australia with a total registered capital of 1.52 million USD on planting, purchasing and trading agricultural products, vegetables, flowers and fruits for export in Don Duong district and Da Lat city. In addition, 6 Australian investors have contributed capital to buy shares in 7 economic organizations in Lam Dong province, accounting for 29.3% of the total charter capital.

Notably, in the past year, the whole province had 3 enterprises exporting tissue-cultured flower and ornamental leaf seedlings to the Australian market: F1 Biotechnology Company Limited (11 million seedlings); Quang Nguyen Company Limited (6 million seedlings) and Cao Nguyen Seedling Joint Stock Company (8.5 million seedlings). Particularly, exporting cut flowers to Australia in the past year, there were also Dalat Hasfarm Company Limited (160 million branches, potted flowers, seedlings and decorative leaves) and Apollo Company Limited (1.6 million branches).

In the coming time, through the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs in Australia, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong will continue to expand the market for key products such as: coffee, fresh flowers, OCOP products, fresh vegetables, fruits, durian, frozen avocado; high-tech dried vegetables, fruits. At the same time, call for and encourage businesses from Australia to invest in the field of processing and preserving agricultural products of all kinds in Lam Dong province such as fruits, vegetables, fruits, medicinal herbs, etc.
