The 1-0 victory over U23 Indonesia on the evening of July 29 helped U23 Vietnam win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. With this title, Quoc Viet became the first player in history to participate in all three championships of U23 Vietnam in the regional tournament, after winning the championship in 2022 and 2023.
Quoc Viet started his journey in the U23 Southeast Asian playground when he was only 19 years old. From a potential young player, up to now, Quoc Viet has become a familiar face in the U23 Vietnam squad. However, in this year's tournament, his role is no longer as prominent as before.
The striker born in 2003 did not score any goals, losing his starting position to Nguyen Cong Phuong - who shone brightly in the final match. Quoc Viet also suffered an injury after the semi-final match against U23 Philippines, so he could not participate in the final match against U23 Indonesia at Bung Karno Stadium.
Compared to the previous two championships, Quoc Viet’s contribution to this year’s tournament was more modest. However, being named in the winning squad was enough to help the 22-year-old striker become a “record holder” of Vietnamese football. This is an achievement that is very difficult for any player in the region to repeat, as most youth tournaments often have a high rotation of players.
In addition to Quoc Viet, this year's U23 Vietnam team also has many players winning the championship for the second time such as Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Dinh Bac, Cong Phuong, Phi Hoang.
Three consecutive championships are proof of the stable succession between generations of Vietnamese youth football. For Quoc Viet, although this year's tournament ended in personal regret, his journey at U23 Southeast Asia still deserves the nickname "King of Youth Tournaments" given by fans.
