Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Agricultural and Rural Development of Tien Giang Province Nguyen Tan Truong said that in order to overcome landslides, mitigate natural disasters, protect production and people's lives, the People's Committee of Tien Giang Province has implemented the project "Emergency resettlement of residents in the dangerous landslide area of Ky Hon estuary, Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao" with a total investment of over 43.6 billion VND.

Of the above capital, the central budget source is 30 billion VND, the rest is from the local budget.

The project is invested by the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Agricultural and Rural Development of Tien Giang province and constructed by Tien Giang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company.

The project scale includes construction of embankments, foundation reinforcement, sidewalks, traffic roads behind the embankment and other auxiliary works. The embankment in the project in Xuan Dong commune is 530m long, embankment crest elevation +2.7; sidewalk elevation +2.5. The vertical embankment is made of reinforced concrete with prestressed sheet piles combined with a load-reducing floor.

The project aims to prevent riverbank erosion, protect rural traffic routes, prevent high tides and saltwater intrusion, and protect the lives and property of people inside the dike. Thereby, creating conditions for organizing and arranging stable lives and mitigating natural disasters for 2,549 households and nearly 9,000 people in Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao district. These are households that have long had to live in fear in the dangerous landslide area of Tien River.

In addition, the project also contributes to overcoming environmental pollution along the river, limiting encroachment on riverbanks and canals, ensuring safety for riverbank infrastructure construction, ensuring waterway traffic safety, creating environmental landscapes and building new rural areas in the locality.

According to the leader of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Projects of Tien Giang province, the Ky Hon estuary area is located at the river junction, where Cho Gao canal connects to Tien river, with dense water traffic. Along with that, climate change has caused severe erosion of the riverbank in Xuan Dong commune in recent times. On average, each year, erosion causes the loss of about 3,000m2 of land, including gardens, houses of people, and traffic infrastructure.

Started in June, all items in the project "Emergency resettlement of residents in the dangerous landslide area of Ky Hon estuary, Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao" have been completed and put into use, creating conditions for people to no longer worry about the risk of landslides and feel secure in developing production.

Mr. Tran Tinh Thanh, a resident of the serious landslide area at Ky Hon estuary, Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao district, shared that for many years, his family has been insecure because each year the landslides cause a few more meters of land to be lost. Now that the State has built a solid embankment, his family is confident in investing in production and developing the family economy./ .
