On the afternoon of April 14 (Vietnam time), Kpop girl group LE SSERAFIM appeared at the largest music festival in the US, Coachella 2024.
Coming to Coachella for the first time, LE SSERAFIM performed about 10 songs, including the group's hits such as "Antifragile", "Fearless", "Unforgiven", "Perfect Night", Easy", "Smart"... and revealed a new song called "Hot & Fun".
However, LE SSERAFIM is completely disappointing because of its poor live singing ability.
Japanese idol Kazuha sings softly, while youngest member Hong Eun Chae is criticized for having a rough, flat voice. Meanwhile, Sakura relies almost entirely on pre-recorded support.
The group's main vocalist, Yujin, constantly sang off-key, off-key, and shaky. The member who was considered the most stable was Chaewon, but she also ran out of breath quite a few times.
Notably, since the second song, LE SSERAFIM has been singing on pre-recorded music played at a very loud volume, drowning out the real vocals.
Audience comments on the group's performance:
“I'd rather play All Recorded.”
“Really disastrous".
“They don't sing, they just shout.”
“The only ones who seem to know how to sing are Kim Chaewon and Huh Yunjin, but they both don't sing and just scream or yell a lot.”
“Where do they get the confidence to go to Coachella? The official video will be edited and posted anyway, so they probably won’t care.”
“Out of all the idols I've seen at Coachella so far, they seem to be the worst performers. Chaewon alone carries the group.”
“I was hoping Coachella would help them shake off their bad live image at their domestic encore… It's a shame, if they could do well at a place like Coachella, public opinion would have turned around."
Before LE SSERAFIM, Blackpink was the Kpop girl group that made a strong impression when they were invited to Coachella twice (2019 and main performance in 2024).
This prestigious music festival is an important opportunity for Kpop idols to raise their profile in the US market.
