Transport output grows strongly
In its latest report to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Transport said it is focusing on implementing many drastic and synchronous solutions to promote transport activities and improve service quality.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport has reviewed and completed legal documents on transport, promoted decentralization and delegation of authority, enhanced the application of information technology, reduced administrative procedures, strengthened inspection and examination, strictly handled violations, and continued to implement the goals of restructuring the transport market share to ensure harmony and rationality.

Thanks to that, the output of freight and passenger transport has grown effectively. Specifically, road transport activities are basically stable, fully meeting the needs of convenient and safe travel of people and businesses.
Air transport activities continue to have many positive changes, international air transport gradually recovers with more than 61 foreign airlines and 5 Vietnamese airlines operating 147 international routes connecting to 28 countries and territories.
Railway transport activities have many innovations, service quality has been improved, a new international transit station has been established at Kep station in Bac Giang province to open an international border gate inland and many international transit trains have been opened to transport export goods from Song Than station (Binh Duong province), Yen Vien station (Hanoi city) to China.
Maritime and inland waterway transport activities have been strongly and effectively deployed, contributing to removing difficulties in production and business activities of maritime and inland waterway transport enterprises; researching to replace traditional transport routes connecting goods from industrial parks, dry ports, ICDs to Hai Phong and Quang Ninh ports to shorten the distance and reduce ship travel time by about 3 hours, contributing to reducing logistics costs.
According to statistics, the volume of freight transport in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 1,917 million tons, an increase of 13.7% over the same period in 2023. In terms of growth rate, air transport increased by 40.9%, road transport increased by 14.7%, waterway increased by 9.4%, sea transport increased by 16.1%, and railway increased by 5.9%.
Passenger transport output in the first 9 months of 2024 is estimated at 3,660 million passengers, up 7.4% over the same period in 2023; the growth rate of the aviation sector decreased by 5.9%; sea transport increased by 7.6%; railway increased by 17.8%; road transport increased by 7.5%; waterway increased by 9.3%.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Transport will continue to speed up the construction of new important projects to create a breakthrough development for transportation, connecting modes of transportation (illustrative photo).
Restructuring and developing multimodal transport
According to the Ministry of Transport, in order to develop the transport market based on the advantages of each mode of transport, associated with the task of restructuring, reducing transport costs, developing multimodal transport and logistics, the Ministry of Transport has issued action plans and programs with specific orientations, goals and tasks.
Currently, the units of the Ministry are closely following the approved specialized plans, as well as the directions of the National Assembly, the Government and the Ministry of Transport to develop projects as a basis for approval and implementation.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Transport will continue to strengthen state management, innovate and perfect institutions and policies on transport and logistics to create a complete and highly effective legal environment for transport activities.
Prioritize resources for developing transport infrastructure according to approved strategies and plans to improve transport quality; accelerate the construction of new important projects to create a breakthrough in transport development, connecting transport modes; ensure effective and synchronous connection of road transport infrastructure with major seaports and inland waterway ports.
At the same time, the Ministry of Transport will also deploy information technology application systems for the entire sector on the basis of the e-Government framework. Promote the deployment of information technology applications and apply advanced technology in management, operation and exploitation of transport, especially for online public service systems, data and statistics systems, intelligent transport systems, transport trading floors, artificial intelligence, etc.
