The series of events, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province, took place from the morning of November 29 to the end of November 30. Attending the event were representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of Nam Dinh province; representatives of the cultural sector of 21 provinces and cities and more than 300 delegates who are artisans and heritage researchers.
2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Convention has global value in preserving, conserving, disseminating and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage in human life, raising awareness and participation of local and national communities, promoting international cooperation and support in this field.
In 2005, Vietnam was one of the first 30 countries to join the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. To date, our country has 15 cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO. Of which, "Practicing the worship of the Mother Goddesses of the Three Realms of the Vietnamese" was recognized as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Nam Dinh is the locality representing the provinces and cities with heritages to preside over the construction of the dossier to submit to UNESCO and organize the reception of the Heritage Recognition Certificate in 2017.
Meritorious Artisan Vu Thanh Binh, Vice President of the Association for the Protection and Promotion of the Heritage of Mother Goddess Worship Practices in Nam Dinh Province, pointed out a number of typical activities of the community in preserving and teaching the values of the intangible cultural heritage "Practicing the Mother Goddess Worship of the Vietnamese People" such as: Organizing practices and transmitting heritage; Participating in conferences and seminars; Actively participating in displaying, exhibiting, and introducing heritage; Organizing social activities...
In addition, Meritorious Artisan Vu Thanh Binh also pointed out the advantages, difficulties and some suggestions. Specifically, the community's activities in preserving and teaching the values of the heritage of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship Practice in Nam Dinh province after being recognized by UNESCO as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity received a high consensus from the community, the subjects practicing the heritage, joining hands to preserve, protect and promote the heritage.
"However, the preservation and promotion of heritage values still have some limitations such as: Propaganda and promotion work is not commensurate with the position and potential of the heritage; many subjects who hold and practice the heritage, considered as "living treasures", are mostly old and in poor health, so teaching is difficult; honoring artisans with many contributions in the field is still limited and not timely...", Meritorious Artisan Vu Thanh Binh said.
After the conference and workshop in Nam Dinh City, from the afternoon of November 29 to the end of November 30, activities to organize and teach the Heritage "Practicing the worship of the Mother Goddesses of the Three Palaces of the Vietnamese" will take place in several places in Nam Dinh province such as the Phu Day relic site (Kim Thai commune, Vu Ban district) and the Phu Quang Cung relic site (Yen Dong commune, Y Yen district).
