Practical, meaningful
We had the opportunity to visit Nguyen Thi Hong and Nguyen Thi Thuy in Mau Cong village, Quang Trung commune (Tu Ky) with the Women's Association of Hai Duong Provincial Military Command.
Hong and Thuy, two sisters, were orphans and lived with their grandfather, who was over 70 years old. He was a war invalid and often sick, and raising two grandchildren made life even more difficult and tiring. As soon as they saw us coming to the gate, Hong and Thuy happily ran out and called out, “Mother Hue ”, “Mother Thom”, which moved everyone.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, who is currently raising the two children, shared: "Knowing that Ms. Hue and Ms. Thom would visit today, the children have been looking forward to it since yesterday. As soon as they woke up this morning, they asked their grandfather to get new clothes to wear to show off to the teachers."
It seems that they lack the warmth of their parents, so since we visited, both Hong and Thuy like to sit on the laps of the girls to have their hair combed and tied...
Captain, professional soldier Nguyen Thi Thom, Vice President of the Women's Union of the Provincial Military Command said: "Every time we come here, we arrange time to go to the market and cook with our children so that they can feel the warmth of family. In addition, we assign women to take advantage of their days off and breaks to encourage and guide the children in some basic skills and housework."
The Women's Union of the Hai Duong Provincial Military Command is currently "sponsoring" two children, Hong and Thuy, with a support level of 500,000 VND/child/month. In addition, the unit also buys bicycles, desks, wardrobes, beds, mattresses and essential living items for the children.
Currently, the Women's Union, agencies and units under the Provincial Military Command are sponsoring 12 orphans, supporting each child with 500,000 VND/month. The funding to help the children is drawn from the unit's fund and voluntary contributions from officers, employees and members of the Women's Union.
Some agencies and units of the provincial armed forces have also deployed “Savings boxes following Uncle Ho’s example” to create a source of funds to help children every month. Agencies and units, especially women’s organizations, play a core role in connecting, calling for, and mobilizing philanthropists and businesses to join hands in support.
In 2024, Hai Duong people will never forget the images of soldiers carrying old people and children to evacuation sites or soaking in the rain to build dikes to prevent floods and overcome the consequences of the recent storm No. 3.
In Ninh Giang, in mid-September, many areas of seasonal rice in the localities were flooded when ready for harvest. The Ninh Giang District Military Command directed troops and soldiers to quickly go to the area to support local people in harvesting rice.
Despite the cold rain, the officers and soldiers quickly divided into groups to help the families. There were places where the officers and soldiers had to soak in water up to their waists to cut the rice. The hardest part was after harvesting, the rice was loaded onto boats and then taken to three-wheeled vehicles over more than 1 km of muddy roads.
Recalling the acts of kindness of the soldiers of Ninh Giang district during storm No. 3, Mr. Pham Dinh Rong in Van Phuc commune (now Duc Phuc commune) said: "The whole village had about 30 hectares of rice that were flooded and could not be harvested by machine. In many places, the rice had sprouted. While the people were worried, more than 40 officers and soldiers returned to the locality to help people harvest rice, which touched us very much."
"3 together" with the people
Promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the provincial armed forces have had many activities in the emulation movement "The Army joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind" associated with the emulation movement Determined to Win.
Activities to help people and support families with meritorious services have been widely and effectively implemented by military units over the past many years with a series of movements and models such as "The Army joins hands to build new rural areas", "When drinking water, remember its source", "Repaying gratitude", "The Army joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind"... Agencies and units in the force concretize activities according to the motto "listen to people, speak so that people understand, do so that people trust" and "3 together" (eat together, live together, work together with people).
From 2019 to present, officers and soldiers of the provincial military force have coordinated to organize 1,000 working days to clean up and clear the flow; propagate and mobilize people to donate over 18,715 m2 of land; participate in 28,000 working days; coordinate to build over 338.4 km of rural roads; dredge and renovate 238 km of canals and ditches in the fields.
Colonel Nguyen The Trung, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, said: “The meaningful and practical works and tasks of the officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces have left a good impression on the people, creating closeness and connection between the army and the people. In particular, it has contributed to building a people's heart, consolidating national defense and security, making the relationship between Uncle Ho's soldiers and the people more solid.”
