The autonomous development of strategic weapons systems is a key factor in ensuring Vietnam's sovereignty over its seas and islands. The Truong Son coastal missile complex (VCS-01), researched, designed and manufactured by the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group ( Viettel ), marks one of the important milestones in the autonomy of Vietnam's defense industry.

Range up to 80km

The main firepower component of the Truong Son system is the Song Hong anti-ship cruise missile. This is a weapon designed and domestically produced by Viettel, with flexible mobility and great destructive power.

The Red River projectile has a range of up to 80km, enough to control a large area of coastal waters. With this range, the Truong Son complex can create a no-access zone for intruding warships or surface vehicles, while effectively supporting the mission of protecting strategic shipping routes.

The missile operates at high subsonic speeds, has a body diameter of 315mm, a length not exceeding 5,000mm and a maximum weight of 600kg. With a compact design, the ammunition is suitable for deployment on mobile launchers, easy to move, deploy or retrieve depending on the combat situation.

With its long range, Truong Son meets Vietnam's coastal defense requirements. The entire design and manufacturing process was carried out by Vietnamese engineers at Viettel, marking an important step forward in self-sufficiency in high-tech weapons.

Synchronized and flexible operation

The strength of the Truong Son complex lies not only in the Song Hong missile, but also in the control system and accompanying vehicles. The complex consists of five main components: the combat command vehicle that acts as the control center and manages the entire operation; the target reconnaissance radar vehicle that detects, locates and tracks targets on the sea surface; the launcher vehicle carrying the launch tubes ready to fire; the ammunition transporter-loader vehicle that is responsible for supplying and reloading ammunition; and finally the Song Hong anti-ship cruise missile - the main firepower component.

Thanks to this synchronous coordination, the Truong Son system can be deployed in both centralized and independent combat modes. The process of calculating the firing element and determining the bullet's trajectory is all done automatically, minimizing the reaction time to the target.

The radar vehicle can operate continuously 24/7, integrated with anti-electronic jamming capabilities, helping to ensure stable target indication information. The combat command vehicle can simultaneously coordinate up to 8 launcher vehicles, significantly shortening preparation time and improving combat effectiveness.

In a country with a coastline of more than 3,200km like Vietnam, owning a self-made coastal defense missile system is of particular importance. Truong Son is capable of creating a dense coastal shield, preventing early risks of warships entering, protecting bases, seaports and coastal residential areas.

In addition, the system's mobility allows defenders to quickly change positions, avoiding detection or launching preemptive strikes. This is a major advantage over fixed systems.

The entire complex bears the mark of being made in Vietnam. This proves that the capacity of Vietnam's defense industry does not stop at just receiving technology but has gradually progressed to mastering it, from research, design to manufacturing finished products.
