Việt NamViệt Nam02/03/2024

On March 1, The Phnom Penh Post - Cambodia's oldest English-language daily newspaper - announced that it will stop publishing at the end of this month due to financial losses.

The Phnom Penh Post said its advertising revenue has plummeted since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn. In addition, rapid technological advances and the widespread dissemination of news via social media have also caused serious financial difficulties for the newspaper.

The Phnom Penh Post stressed that despite the shareholders’ efforts to increase investment and generate revenue, the newspaper was still unable to bear the losses. Therefore, the shareholders decided to stop publishing the newspaper, both the English and Khmer editions, from March 29, 2024.

The announcement also expressed sincere gratitude to all customers, readers and business partners for their support of the newspaper.

The Phnom Penh Post was founded in 1992.
