The Central Executive Committee plans to merge Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, naming the province Bac Ninh, with the political and administrative center located in Bac Giang province.

In Resolution 60 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Central Executive Committee, the Central Committee planned to merge Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, naming the province Bac Ninh, with the political and administrative center located in Bac Giang province. To implement the merger, Bac Giang province was assigned to preside over the arrangement with Bac Ninh province.

Thanks to industrial development, in recent years, the socio-economy in Bac Giang has grown strongly.

The leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Bac Giang province said that immediately after the Central Government's policy, the Standing Committees of the Bac Giang and Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committees met to discuss the merger. Accordingly, the two provinces established working groups to serve the implementation of the merger, including reviewing policies, facilities, and staff.

According to the leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Bac Giang province, the expected time to submit the application for merging the two provinces is before May 1 and to collect voters' opinions on April 20.

Looking back at history, from 1962 to 1996, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh were merged into Ha Bac province. On January 1, 1997, the two provinces separated as before. After nearly 30 years of separation, both provinces have achieved many remarkable achievements in socio-economic development.

Before the merger, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh were two of the localities with the fastest industrialization and industrial development in the country in recent years.

In 2022, the economic growth rate (GRDP) of Bac Giang province will reach 19.3%, in 2023 it will reach 13.45% and in 2024 it will reach 13.85%, ranking first in the country.

In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Bac Giang province leads the country in GRDP growth rate with 14.02%. Total FDI capital in 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 will reach 2.23 billion USD.

With 16 industrial parks and 55 industrial clusters, Bac Giang is gradually forming a closed logistics production chain, especially in districts and towns bordering Bac Ninh such as Viet Yen, Hiep Hoa, and Lang Giang.

The Bac Giang Provincial Convention Center includes the main items: 700-seat multi-purpose hall, 200-seat hall, 6 meeting rooms with 60 seats and related functional rooms. The surrounding square serves outdoor cultural and political activities.

Not only economic, the two provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang also share a deep and similar culture and history. Both used to belong to Kinh Bac town, the birthplace of Quan Ho folk song heritage, long-standing traditional festivals and the quintessence of Northern culture. One of Bac Giang province’s top priorities in 2025 is to improve the quality of agricultural products. The province focuses on improving production processes, using modern technology and applying international standards to production. A typical example is the application of technology in preserving lychees after harvest.

From February 1, 2024, Viet Yen town (Bac Giang province) was established on the basis of Viet Yen district. Viet Yen's average economic growth rate in the past 4 years reached 26.8%/year; in 2024 it reached 29.8%, ranking first among districts, towns and cities in the province.

Bac Ninh province has an area of ​​822.7 km2, located at the northern gateway of Hanoi capital. According to the 2022 statistical yearbook, Bac Ninh's population is 1,488,250 people. The province has 8 administrative units, including: Bac Ninh city, Tu Son city, Thuan Thanh town, Que Vo town and 4 districts: Tien Du, Yen Phong, Gia Binh and Luong Tai.

Bac Giang province has a natural area of ​​3,827 km2. According to the census as of 0:00 on January 1, 2024, Bac Giang has 1,922,740 people. The province has 10 district-level administrative units including: Bac Giang city, Viet Yen town, Chu town and 7 districts: Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Yen The, Lang Giang, Tan Yen, Son Dong, Hiep Hoa.
