Vinh Tuy Bridge is a vital bridge across the Red River (Hanoi) connecting with Ring Road 2, helping vehicles travel from Dong Da, Thanh Xuan, Hai Ba Trung districts to Long Bien district and Gia Lam district and vice versa conveniently.
To enhance traffic between the two banks of the Red River, connecting the center of the capital with the northern and northeastern areas of the city, the construction of Vinh Tuy Bridge phase 2 started in January 2021 and is now nearing completion.
More than 2 months ago, on the morning of May 30, the Vinh Tuy Bridge project phase 2 (Vinh Tuy 2) officially closed the last block (block 8) of the main bridge section across the Red River to move to the final stage to organize the opening of traffic on the occasion of National Day, September 2.
Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2 is parallel and has a similar shape to Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 1.
The bridge's center is parallel to and 21.25m away from the center of the phase 1 bridge. The total investment for this project is more than 2,500 billion VND.
The total length of the bridge and approach roads is about 3,473m, the bridge cross-section is 19.25m, designed with 4 lanes, clearance height of 11m, and a navigational aperture of more than 85m.
Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge is designed with 53 spans, including 44 Super T spans, 3 cantilever spans and 6 continuous hollow slab girder spans cast on scaffolding.
The river crossing section alone is 3.7km long, the two-way access road is 1.68km long.
Currently, the construction unit is completing the asphalt pavement of the middle section of the bridge, installing the median strip and painting lines, installing the lighting system, and testing the bridge load.
Workers clear drainage ditches under the median strip and install flower pot display shelves between Vinh Tuy 1 and Vinh Tuy 2 bridges.
The decorative lighting system with 600 columns has also been completed.
The lane for buses, motorbikes and non-motorized vehicles is quite wide.
Currently, the traffic density on the Vinh Tuy 1 bridge on the other side is quite dense. People in the capital hope that the Vinh Tuy 2 bridge project will be completed soon to help reduce the load on the road across the vital river above.
These days, the starting point of the project at the intersection with Nguyen Khoi Street and Minh Khai Street (Hai Ba Trung District) is still fenced off, while the end point at the intersection with Long Bien - Thach Ban Street and Co Linh Street (Long Bien District) is open to allow vehicles serving the project to enter and exit.
According to the reporter's observation, some cars traveling on the bridge from Co Linh to the center of the capital, when reaching the center section because the asphalt had not been paved yet, the drivers had to turn around.
Upon completion, Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge will have 4 traffic lanes including 2 motor vehicle lanes, 1 bus lane, 1 mixed lane, connecting with the elevated Ring Road 2, forming a complete traffic axis from the center of Hanoi to the North and Northeast of the city.
