Tom Cruise is back, better than ever?

The first trailer for Mission Impossible 8 , titled Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning, reveals the heroic agent Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, returning to the conflict that began in Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Onep and continuing to fight against the artificial intelligence "The Entity".

"Our lives are the sum of our choices. See you in theaters on May 23, 2025," Tom Cruise (62 years old) wrote on Instagram when releasing the trailer for Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning .

Returning to star alongside Cruise in the latest installment are Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff and Henry Czerny. All appeared in the seventh film, which grossed $172 million at the domestic box office and $567 million worldwide, earning the franchise its first Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.

New to the cast of part 8 are Nick Offerman, Bob Odenkirk, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham and Katy O'Brian. Christopher McQuarrie returns as director after directing Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation, Mission Impossible - Fallout and Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

The eighth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise began filming in the UK, Malta, South Africa and Norway in early 2022. Production was halted in July 2023 due to the Hollywood writers and actors' strike, before resuming in March 2024. The film was originally titled Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two but was changed in October 2023.

One of Tom Cruise's upcoming projects is the movie Top Gun 3, following the success of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
