(CPV) - At 79 years old, nearly 60 years of revolutionary activities, 26 consecutive years in the position of First Secretary and General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, General Secretary Le Duan set a shining example of a pioneer revolutionary soldier, dedicating his whole life to the country, to the people, to the noble ideal: an independent, unified Vietnam moving towards socialism, the Vietnamese people having a free, prosperous and happy life.
Comrade Le Duan (birth name Le Van Nhuan) was born on April 7, 1907 in a working-class family with a tradition of patriotism in Bich La Dong village, Bich La commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province (now Bich La Dong village, Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province). He was a staunch communist soldier who soon became aware of the revolution and participated in patriotic activities such as the movement to demand the French colonialists to pardon patriot Phan Boi Chau (1925), joining the Friendship Association in Da Nang (1926), the Tan Viet Revolutionary Party... He was among the first to respond to the call of comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc to follow the revolutionary path of Marxism-Leninism and joined the Revolutionary Youth Association in 1928. In 1930, comrade Le Duan became one of the first party members of the Indochinese Communist Party.

Comrade Le Duan directly participated in continuous revolutionary activities in all three regions of the North, Central and South, and was trusted by the Party and the people, and assigned many important responsibilities such as: Member of the Propaganda Committee of the Northern Regional Party Committee (1931), Secretary of the Central Regional Party Committee (1938), Member of the Central Party Standing Committee (1939), Secretary of the Southern Regional Party Committee, Secretary of the Central Bureau for the South (1946 - 1954), First Secretary, General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Party (1960 to July 1986)... As a steadfast communist soldier, working tirelessly, General Secretary Le Duan left his footprints all over the country and was loyal to the people and the Party, upholding the spirit of revolutionary offensive. Even during the years of imprisonment and chains, when the revolution encountered countless difficulties, he still maintained his revolutionary spirit, resolutely fought, and sought every way to move the revolutionary movement forward.
With 26 consecutive years of holding the position of First Secretary and General Secretary of the Party, simultaneously carrying out two strategic tasks of the entire nation: building and protecting socialism in the North and fighting to liberate the South, unify the country, and lead the whole country to socialism, in difficult and complicated historical times, comrade Le Duan made great contributions to the revolution, demonstrated in his breakthrough decisions and far-sighted leadership thinking.
As an outstanding leader of the Party, General Secretary Le Duan was also an excellent theorist, a great creative thinker of the Vietnamese revolution. The General Secretary attached great importance to theoretical research, learning and practicing theoretical thinking. Despite being busy with many jobs, comrade Le Duan still left behind nearly 100 works with thousands of pages of writing, notably the works: "Outline of the Southern Revolution"; "Letter to the South"; "Under the glorious flag of the Party, for independence, freedom, for socialism, moving forward to gain new victories"... Besides the independent, autonomous and creative thinking style, these works always show concern and spirit for the country, for the people, for the revolutionary cause of the nation.
General Secretary Le Duan was both a great patriot and a pure international communist soldier, following Uncle Ho's example throughout his life to contribute to consolidating and strengthening pure international solidarity. General Secretary Le Duan lived an honest and simple life, always close to his compatriots and comrades, with deep and sincere love.
For his great contributions, our Party and State awarded him the Gold Star Order. The Soviet Union, Laos, Cambodia, Poland, Bulgaria, Cuba, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Mongolia, and Czechoslovakia awarded him many noble medals. The International Lenin Prize Committee awarded him the award “For the cause of strengthening peace among nations”.
At the age of 79, with nearly 60 years of revolutionary activities, 26 consecutive years in the position of First Secretary and General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, General Secretary Le Duan set a shining example of a pioneer revolutionary soldier, dedicating his whole life to the noble ideal: an independent, unified Vietnam moving towards socialism, the Vietnamese people having a free, prosperous and happy life. His name and career are closely associated with the glorious victories of our country's revolution in the 20th century.
The 13th National Party Congress stated, “The world is undergoing great changes, with rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments. Peace, cooperation, and development remain the major trends, but are facing many obstacles and difficulties; strategic competition among major countries and local conflicts continue to take place in many forms, becoming more complex and intense, increasing risks to the international economic, political, and security environment. Globalization and international integration continue to progress but are being challenged by competition for influence among major countries and the rise of extreme nationalism. International law and global multilateral institutions are facing major challenges” (1). In that context, we need to continue to promote the revolutionary cause, build, and firmly defend the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
On the 117th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Le Duan (April 7, 1907 - April 7, 2024), we remember an outstanding leader of our Party and people, a great creative thinker of the Vietnamese revolution, and an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh.
Following the example of comrade Le Duan, our entire Party, people and army vow to learn from comrade Le Duan's lifelong example of dedication to the country and the people; persistently apply and creatively develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; firmly follow the path of national independence and socialism; promote patriotism and the strength of great national unity; strengthen unity and consensus, seize opportunities, overcome all difficulties and challenges, and successfully complete the tasks set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; and be determined to successfully carry out the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country and effective international integration, for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization./.
