2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the "Treaty on the Fundamental Principles of Friendly Relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Russian Federation" (Vietnam-Russia Friendship Treaty) (June 16, 1994 - June 16, 2024), leading up to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in 2025.

The political relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation is highly trustworthy and has been constantly strengthened. Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed dynamically in recent times but is not commensurate with the bilateral potential. As of April 2024, Russia had 186 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 984.98 million USD, implemented in 21 localities, in the fields of oil and gas, mining, processing and manufacturing industries... Vietnam has 18 investment projects in Russia with a total registered capital of 1.63 billion USD. Energy is a traditional strategic and effective area of cooperation.

The two sides share the same views on many international and regional issues, closely coordinate and support each other at international forums such as the United Nations, APEC, ASEM, ARF, CICA... Meanwhile, security and defense cooperation has been promoted, cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism; education, training; science and technology continues to develop, achieving many positive results.

There are currently about 60,000-80,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in Russia, making significant contributions to the country.

According to Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko, since Vietnam and the Russian Federation established a comprehensive strategic partnership, the traditional friendship between the two countries has developed strongly in all areas of social life.

The Ambassador also affirmed that Russia is interested in prioritizing the promotion of strategic partnership with ASEAN, in which it always values and wishes to further strengthen the close friendship with Vietnam, one of Russia's key partners in Southeast Asia, for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
