Turkish and US officials announced that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has postponed his visit to the US on May 9.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli said the reason for the postponement was a scheduling conflict, and affirmed that high-level dialogue between the two countries would continue. A US Embassy spokesman said the White House wanted to host President Erdogan at a mutually convenient time, but the US side had not yet arranged a schedule.
If all goes according to plan, this will be Erdogan's first visit to Washington since 2019, when he met with then-US President Donald Trump. Since Biden took office in January 2021, President Erdogan has met his counterpart Biden several times in the framework of international summits and bilateral phone calls. Relations between the US and Turkey have long been strained due to disagreements on many issues such as Syria, Russia and the conflict in Gaza.
