RT reported that President Trump signed an executive order adjusting tariffs on many countries, effective from August 7. In a statement on the evening of July 31, the White House said that countries that do not participate in negotiations or offer terms that "do not sufficiently address the imbalance" will be subject to higher tariffs.
India will face a 25% tariff after President Trump announced additional sanctions on July 30 for continuing to trade with Russia. The White House chief said the tariffs were imposed partly because India is a member of BRICS, and partly because of what he called a “horrific” trade deficit with New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Brazil is subject to tariffs of up to 50% on the grounds that the country poses a threat to the "national security, foreign policy and economy " of the United States.
President Trump has also previously threatened to impose an additional 10% tariff on all BRICS countries, accusing the bloc of trying to "destroy the standard dollar".
President Trump also increased tariffs on Canada from 25% to 35%, citing Ottawa's "continued inaction" in stopping the trafficking of fentanyl into the United States.
Tensions between Washington and Ottawa have escalated in recent weeks after Mr Trump criticised Canada for supporting Palestinian statehood, saying it would "make it very difficult for us to do a trade deal with them".
Meanwhile, Mexico avoided a tariff hike after reaching a deal with Washington early on July 31. The White House confirmed that 25% tariffs on some Mexican goods will remain in place for another 90 days, postponing a planned increase to 30%.
The EU, South Korea and Japan face 15% tariffs after reaching trade deals with Washington in recent weeks. Some of the highest adjusted tariffs include Syria (41%), Laos and Myanmar (40%), Switzerland (39%), Iraq and Serbia (35%), and Algeria, Libya and South Africa (30%).
The White House added that the "universal" base tariff on goods imported into the US will remain at 10% for countries with a trade surplus and 15% for countries with a trade deficit with the US.
