On July 11, in Vung Tau ward, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with Tuoi Tre Newspaper to organize a discussion with the theme "Development space of Ho Chi Minh City - Driving force from building supply and retail chains".
At the seminar, Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is entering a new stage of development, where opportunities and challenges always go hand in hand.
Expanding the development space and operating the multi-center urban model is not simply a mechanical administrative adjustment, but it is an opportunity to elevate the City's position on the economic map of Southeast Asia.
To realize that goal, the City's leaders have proactively innovated the growth model, establishing a central role in finance, production, trade, logistics and innovation in the region.

Mr. Vu informed that Ho Chi Minh City has been playing a leading role, accounting for more than 20% of the total retail sales of the country, contributing greatly to the economy of the Southern key economic region. However, the trade and service sector still has some bottlenecks.
In addition, e-commerce is developing rapidly but lacks real connection with the logistics chain, production and traditional distribution system, and lacks the connection between the supply chain and production to create quality products and services...
On that basis, the City’s Industry and Trade Department has identified a number of key orientations in the development of trade and services in the new phase. Among them, developing trade and service space planning associated with multi-center urban areas, taking advantage of the sea, and enhancing regional connectivity.

According to Mr. Vu, the city prioritizes the formation of clusters of shopping centers - logistics - wholesale markets - logistics in the southern region (Nha Be, Can Gio (old), the western region (Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon (old), connecting with belt routes and seaports. Promote comprehensive digital transformation, focusing on traditional markets, cooperatives, small and medium enterprises as the focus of transforming operations, administration, payment and connecting supply chains.

Promote the restructuring of supply chains of strategic industries (agricultural products, food, fast-moving consumer goods, electronics, etc.) in a flexible and proactive manner, adapting to market fluctuations and improving service quality. Develop smart seaport logistics chains, take advantage of Can Gio transit port, and strengthen regional and international connectivity.
