Ho Chi Minh City changes the time of the additional entrance exam for specialized 10th graders.

"This year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is expected to organize an additional entrance exam for specialized 10th graders in May 2025," said Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, when speaking with Tuoi Tre Online at noon on December 13.

According to Mr. Quoc, in previous years, the supplementary entrance exam for specialized 10th graders was usually held at the end of the first semester of each school year. However, this year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will hold this exam at the end of the school year to match the progress of implementing the 2018 general education program.

Specifically, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that for the 2018 general education program, students wishing to change their chosen subjects or study clusters must do so at the end of the school year.

Therefore, the supplementary entrance exam for grade 10 held at the end of the school year will create favorable conditions for students in their study at high school after being admitted (if the subjects chosen at the new school are not the same as the old school, students will still have summer time to take supplementary courses).

It is known that in recent years, specialized schools under the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and some high schools that often recruit specialized 10th graders in Ho Chi Minh City have not met their enrollment quota at the beginning of the school year.

Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will organize an additional entrance exam at the end of the first semester every year. However, the number of students admitted is still not much. Some specialized classes still do not have enough 35 students.

The last year of recruiting specialized grade 10 students for regular schools

In order to implement Circular 05/2023 of the Ministry of Education and Training on the regulations on organization and operation of specialized high schools, from the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling in specialized classes in regular high schools.

Therefore, the additional entrance exam for specialized grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year will be the last additional entrance exam for specialized classes at high schools that usually have specialized classes.
