On May 14, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the competition ratio for 10th graders to enter more than 100 public schools. Students can change their preferences after knowing the competition ratio.
“This regulation is to help candidates increase their chances of entering public grade 10. Because the first time, students register their first choice but do not know the total number of choices to enter that school. For example, a school has an enrollment quota of 500 students but statistics show that there are 1,000 first choice students. If it remains the same, about 500 students will definitely fail. However, if adjustments are made, students can change their first choice to another school with fewer choices/quotas, and the chance of being admitted will be higher. This does not affect the quality of the city's annual grade 10 enrollment,” said an official from the Department of Education and Training.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 88,000 students graduating from grade 9, while the quota for grade 10 in public schools is more than 70,000 students. Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department, said that with the above quota, the rate of junior high school graduates entering grade 10 in public schools is about 79%, an increase of 14% compared to last year.

This year, the schools with the highest enrollment targets are: Hung Vuong High School (District 5), Marie Curie High School (District 3); Tay Thanh (Tan Phu District); Nguyen Trung Truc, Tran Hung Dao (Go Vap District), Hoang Hoa Tham (Binh Thanh District), Vo Thi Sau (Binh Thanh District), Truong Chinh (District 12), Nguyen Cong Tru (Go Vap District), Phu Nhuan (Phu Nhuan District).
In the specialized class block, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted recruit students nationwide. Schools recruiting integrated English 10th grade classes include: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, Bui Thi Xuan, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Luong The Vinh, Nguyen Huu Huan, Mac Dinh Chi, Saigon Practical High School, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Phu Nhuan, Gia Dinh.

The 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City takes place on June 6-7. Candidates take 3 subjects: Math - Literature - Foreign Language. The time for Math and Literature is 120 minutes, Foreign Language is 90 minutes. Those who register for specialized schools will take an additional specialized subject (150 minutes).
The 10th grade admission process is carried out in 2 phases. In phase 1, students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of high schools.
In phase 2, depending on the actual application submission situation and the needs of high schools, the Department will decide on additional enrollment and issue written instructions to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of recruiting enough quotas for schools that are still lacking. Each student can register for 3 wishes, arranged in order of priority from high to low (wish 1, 2, 3), if admitted to a wish, they must study in that wish and cannot change.
Students who register have 2 priority wishes to enter specialized classes. If they are not admitted or do not apply to specialized schools, students graduating from junior high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City can still participate in the admission exam to grade 10 according to 3 wishes to enter public high schools.
Candidates are awarded priority points and incentive points according to the Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. If they are eligible for multiple priority and incentive benefits at the same time, the maximum bonus points will not exceed 3.5 points and the additional points will only be applied to candidates with 3 wishes to enter public high schools.
(VietNamNet will update the competition ratio as soon as the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announces it)
