Reading "The Crescent Moon", a collection of poems by Nguyen Duc Tien, we first encounter a regret for the past, gratitude and a vague sadness.
Diving in half a lifetime
I hear clearly the laughter and tears of life
Sadness before the ghosts
How many cruel and sad figures
Pity the wandering night
Cry until tears flow out of the heart...

Sadness is obviously a psychological attribute in the “seven natures” inherent in humans. Just as the earth has day and night, colors have warm and cold tones, life has joy and sadness, but usually there is more sadness than joy.
Therefore, the literary masterpiece loved by both ancient and modern people - from the supreme Emperor who loved Thuy Kieu in the last century, to the land of war - where seventh grade boys recited Kieu after battles, is a "heartbreaking" cry.
Nguyen Trai, the author of a piece of “Thien co hung van” when welcoming the most beautiful season of the year, also lamented: “Awakening to spring brings heartache to each other”. Is it because of sadness that they are less great? Is it because of carrying such deep sadness that geniuses become more humane and closer to us?
So who can stand on tiptoe forever, unnatural! After all, sadness is not only a psychological reality different from joy, it is also like a bundle of straw lining the nest for joy, like the white in the egg of happiness that makes true joy more precious. Aren't there tears of joy and happiness? So the sadness in "Lower Crescent Moon" is not strange to us - especially the sadness of regretting the past, remembering the old wharves of the past, the homeland has become a familiar mood of humanity. In "Lower Crescent Moon", sadness and gratitude for the past have their own unique beauty:
I love the morning sun and the afternoon rain
The branches and leaves of the homeland also grow in the homeland.
The gentle scent of spring follows
In the eyes, the oath on the shoulder
The year is long, the month is longer
Life is as fresh as jasmine in the morning dew...

In "The Crescent Moon", sadness is not scary, but a warning to help us avoid falling into the maze of today's real life, and not foolishly waste our precious limited time on meaningless AQ circular illusions.
The colors white, purple, pink, and blue that the author mentioned many times in the collection “The Crescent Moon” are cold colors. Also cold and lonely like: “After the game, I sat and looked back/The familiar faces of my friends/Some poor, some rich/Some officials and some soldiers”, reminding us, reminding us of a “cold planet - a lonely star at the end of the distant sky” by Che Lan Vien in the past! That loneliness is even more impressive because of its evocative context, where the whole universe merges with the poet’s feelings:
When I'm sad I want to write poetry.
To keep our minds from going blank
See the mist flying, see thousands of waves
Patting my heart with a vague rhythm
When I'm sad I dream
Walk with me on the deep green grassland...

It must be said that, in “sadness and joy”, the author used many valuable sentences and words. It lets us feel both the cruelty of time, the torment of fate and the need to use “spicy wine” to soothe the unwarranted sadness. This is not only a linguistic technique, but also embodies the human suffering that has spread throughout space.
The cornflowers themselves are not sad, but in Han Mac Tu's poem, "The stream of water is sad, the cornflowers are swaying" it is really sad. Similarly, "The crescent moon" in Nguyen Duc Tien's poem suddenly has an unexpected meaning - it is imbued with the melancholy feelings of his mature age, having experienced many ups and downs in life:
Spring day turns the page
Kieu Ma sees fate as having good or bad luck.
Who knows, among the thick layers of books
These few lines of hand pressed heart to heart
Sympathy for a hero
Again give body for love...

Yes, at the age of maturity, the "Lower Crescent Moon" can truly match the sorrowful thoughts of the revolving nature that cannot be found in the age of thirty or older. And many people at the age of "Knowing One's Destiny" and above will secretly thank the author of "Lower Crescent Moon".
This age may not have the fiery heart of the young, but the sunset is sometimes more splendid and captivating than the dawn, so the heart of a mature person sometimes has a higher beat frequency and passion than the heart of a young person.
The key is not in age, but in the level of life awareness, in the spirit of the soul. Knowing how to live life to the fullest, then "fifty years before twenty, twenty-three years before" will be more generous than the indifferent and callous twenty-year-old. Only the inertia of biological existence fluctuates according to the market exchange rate:
Don't be sad, a last word
So I divided my aching heart in half.
Half healed is enough to make you sob.
For a lifetime to save for the future...

It is difficult to distinguish whether this is a drunkenness over beauty like a carp watching the moon, or a bewildered voice lamenting that beauty is like an ironic riddle, always slipping away from reach. Then "The person has gone back in his dreams", to "The package of sadness hidden among the late night stars".
This is the color of memories, a beauty that is both real and unreal, but also evokes sadness. That cold yellow color wants to numb us for a moment "Tomorrow is far away, will the days and months know?" It trembles with the poet's anxiety and belief:
Sadness drifts away with the misty clouds
Why block the thick autumn mist?
Defective and then full
The waning moon will see you again on a full moon day...

We are moved to receive the beauty crystallized in the hair gathered in dew - the embodiment of many sleepless nights combined with the author's rich life experiences expressed in "The crescent moon". The magical and ethereal beauty when "I sadly regret a bit of innocence / The white shirt color flutters like a dream". And if I were allowed to choose the "beauty queen" here, I would vote for this charming passage:
Husband and wife waves on the distant shore
I go away the moonlight is fading
Forget the song by the pond
Dry well, cold stone, garden, restless and sad...

In these seemingly divine six-eight verses, we see the concentration of many strengths in Nguyen Duc Tien's writing style, most notably the concentration of both surging and deep nostalgia for the past. In my opinion, in a true personality, nostalgia is not just a mere "thick moss" relic. It is also a source of energy, a battery, a launching pad for the present.
Perhaps readers will discover many other aspects in Nguyen Duc Tien's poetry. For example, the meaning and philosophy in the words that appear suddenly and not suddenly. For example, the perspective of harmony with nature and human nature - especially a kind and sensitive heart that we can note scattered throughout this collection of poems. Just to give one example:
Know how to hate and love, nature gives people
Despite the world's fickle nature
Heart keep breathing
Don't one day turn pale and petrified...

With the same low tone of sadness and gratitude, “The Moon in the Lower Crescent” also sparkles with many attractive, joyful green rays. In fact, it is difficult to distinguish clearly between sadness and beauty in Nguyen Duc Tien’s poetry. The sky is clear, suddenly it rains heavily, the wind howls “The rain comes, drenching my heart/The soft heels on the porch are cold, the sound waves reverberate/Pushing away the wasted days/You go that way, the wind howls here”. That diverse changing tone of nature attracts the vision, at the same time a sudden sadness about the rapid change also stings in the depths of the heart. But well, each person has their own taste. Personally, I think, with just two large layers of sentiment in “The Moon in the Lower Crescent” it has illuminated us, sympathized with us, and dialogued with us - “the sadness of fate” and “the beauty of the human world”.
Nguyen Duc Tien has been able to receive many more grateful friends. This thematic bass couplet in his own symphony poem is a message crystallized from many personal human experiences. It bears the mark of maturity and youthfulness of a soul that always longs to wait for the waves "If there is no longer a thin moon/Where is the appointment with the summer day", it shares with us the painful things, a little wistful, a moment of floating "Absolutely blind, half real, half unreal/ The sea embraces the misty mountains", in our life of searching for ourselves, at the same time, our life of searching for friends, we come together containing so much pain, joy, so much wonderful beauty and depth in this world.
