According to Live Science , billions of people around the world will have the opportunity to admire the blood moon phenomenon - a total lunar eclipse - on September 7 or 8, depending on the time zone.

This will be the longest total lunar eclipse since 2022, lasting about 1 hour and 22 minutes. During this time, the Moon will be covered in a deep blood red color, creating a spectacular sight.

This special event will be clearly observed in Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe, allowing more than 7 billion people to admire, of which about 6.2 billion people will see the whole process from start to finish. Notably, Vietnam is in the most favorable area to observe this phenomenon.

Most of the Americas will miss the eclipse, however, as it falls during the daytime. However, people in Hawaii, Alaska and parts of Brazil will still have a chance to see at least part of the eclipse.

According to astronomical experts, Vietnamese people will have the opportunity to admire the entire process of the total lunar eclipse on the night of September 7 and early morning of September 8.

Specifically, at 10:28 p.m. on September 7, the penumbral lunar eclipse will begin, when a dark layer gradually covers the full Moon.

At 11:27 p.m., a partial lunar eclipse will occur, with red hues beginning to appear and spread.

The "blood moon" phase officially begins at 0:30 on September 8, reaching its peak at 1:11 a.m. the same day.

The total lunar eclipse will then end at 1:52 a.m., the partial lunar eclipse will end at 2:56 a.m., and the entire eclipse will end at 3:55 a.m. on September 8.

A total lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Earth passes exactly between the Sun and the Moon, forming a straight line. At this time, the Earth will block most of the sunlight that reaches the Moon.

However, instead of disappearing completely, the Moon turned a deep red color. This phenomenon is explained by the light scattering mechanism of the Earth's atmosphere.

Only longer wavelengths of light, in the red end of the spectrum, can pass through the atmosphere to reach the Moon. Meanwhile, shorter wavelengths, such as blue, are scattered by the atmosphere and are scattered throughout space. This is what makes the sky appear red at sunset.
