The 60th Baeksang Arts Awards in Korea recently announced the nominations for both film and television. Works released between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024 will be eligible for this year's awards. 60 industry experts participated in the survey to select the nominees.
In the television sector, important categories such as Best Film and Best Actor/Actress have attracted public attention early on and generated many predictions.
The nominations for Best Actor include: Nam Goong Min (My Dearest), Kim Soo Hyun (Queen of Tears), Ryu Seung Ryong (Moving), Yoo Yeon Seok (A Bloody Lucky Day), Yim Si Wan (Boyhood).
Nominees for Best Actress include: Ahn Eun Jin (My Dearest), Honey Lee (Knight Flower), Lim Ji Yeon (Lies Hidden in My Garden), Ra Mi Ran (The Good Bad Mother), Uhm Jung Hwa (Doctor Cha).
However, according to My Daily, after the nomination list was announced, controversy arose on social media. Some people expressed regret that Kim Soo Hyun was nominated for Best Actor, but Kim Ji Won was absent from the nomination list for Best Actress.
The drama "Queen of Tears" starring Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun is currently causing a global fever, reaching a rating of 18.95% on tvN.
In addition, many viewers were upset because the drama “Revenant” was nominated for Best Drama and Best Screenplay, but the female lead Kim Tae Ri was completely absent. While her performance in “Revenant” was highly appreciated, many viewers even predicted that Kim Tae Ri would win the Best Actress award.
Some other opinions say that Lim Ji Yeon's role in "Lies Hidden in My Garden" is excellent enough for her to be nominated for Best Actress.
The 60th Baeksang Arts Awards will be held on May 7 in Gangnam, Seoul. The show will be broadcast live on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4.
My Daily's post about the controversy over Kim Tae Ri and Kim Ji Won not being nominated for Baeksang Female Lead quickly entered the Top 3 hottest entertainment news on Naver, with more than 70,000 views upon posting.
