Discipline reshapes life.
A typical day of study and rehabilitation at Drug Rehabilitation Center No. 1 begins at 5:30 AM with physical exercises. Afterwards, trainees clean up, tidy their belongings, and have breakfast to prepare for the day's activities.
To ensure effective learning and training, life skills classes, awareness education , and occupational therapy are organized intermittently to help students maintain a structured daily routine.
The day's activities concluded at 9 PM after the management team officers evaluated the learning and training results of each student. Through this process, positive aspects were further promoted, and deviations were promptly addressed and corrected. After the activities, students wrote in their diaries, read books, watched the news, and watched movies before resting.
Despite having a stable job, HNNg. (from Hoa Vang commune) was lured into drug use by friends. The prolonged partying led Ng. to gradually neglect her work and distance herself from her family. After many unsuccessful attempts to encourage her, her family decided to send her to rehabilitation. After 14 months of treatment, learning, and training, Ng.'s mental state has gradually stabilized. "I'm trying every day to rebuild my life. With the encouragement and education from the staff, I understand my responsibilities better and have more motivation to strive," Ng. shared.
Similarly, H. (from Hai Chau ward) fell into drug addiction due to peer pressure. Initially, it was just to try it out, but the more she used it, the more dependent she became, neglecting her work and avoiding her family. After encouragement from her family, H. agreed to voluntarily undergo rehabilitation for 6 months. “When I first started rehabilitation, I felt confined and uncomfortable because I lost my freedom. After detoxification according to the protocol and receiving dedicated guidance from the staff, I gradually forgot the craving for drugs. The strict but compassionate approach of the staff helped me raise my awareness to overcome temptation,” H. confided.

Healing through love
Successful addiction recovery requires many factors, with the student's determination playing the most important role, along with the support of their teachers and mentors.
Ms. Vo Thi Huyen Trang, an officer at the facility, said that most of the trainees yearn to rebuild their lives, and all they need is someone to listen, guide them, and give them confidence.
To make the lectures accessible, instructors not only adhere closely to the Ministry of Public Security 's curriculum but also demonstrate flexibility in their delivery, incorporating many real-life stories into each topic. Classes on life skills and community reintegration skills are regularly organized to help students develop the ability to handle situations and the resilience to overcome temptations after returning to their localities.
Besides discipline and order, each staff member here must also be patient, gentle, a good listener, and supportive of the trainees. Dr. Thieu Duc Tin, who has many years of experience in addiction treatment, said that each trainee has different circumstances and reasons for addiction, so treatment must be flexible.
Furthermore, the emergence of many new types of drugs is seriously affecting the brain, causing neurological degeneration, and leading to more complex psychological disorders in trainees. This reality necessitates continuous innovation in management, detoxification, and behavioral rehabilitation education, ensuring both strict management and a supportive environment to help trainees feel secure during treatment.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Dung, Head of Drug Rehabilitation Center No. 1, said that to improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation, the unit has developed a practical action program that complies with the regulations of the Ministry of Public Security and the directives of the city's police leadership. This includes regularly coordinating with experts to organize seminars, psychological therapy sessions, and thematic talks to help trainees balance their emotions and improve their skills in overcoming temptation.
In addition, the facility assigns staff to monitor and support trainees after they complete their rehabilitation and return to their local communities; it also connects them with businesses and introduces job opportunities so that those who have completed rehabilitation can stabilize their lives. Maintaining continuous support will help minimize gaps in management, create motivation for those who have completed rehabilitation to reintegrate into the community, avoid the risk of relapse, and contribute to maintaining security and order and building a safer living environment.
