Deploying urgent measures against IUU fishing

STO - On June 19, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held an online conference with coastal provinces and cities nationwide on implementing urgent measures to combat IUU fishing. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien chaired the conference. Attending at the Soc Trang province bridge were comrade Vuong Quoc Nam - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of relevant departments and branches; leaders of the People's Committees of coastal districts in the whole province.

To effectively carry out the work of combating IUU fishing, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Soc Trang province has coordinated with relevant units to organize many training and propaganda sessions on legal regulations on preventing and combating IUU fishing according to regulations; organized 14 propaganda classes on the 2017 Fisheries Law; organized a conference to deploy Resolution No. 22, dated December 6, 2024 of the Provincial People's Council stipulating the policy of supporting satellite subscription fees for voyage monitoring equipment; organized 3 mock trials in 3 coastal localities. Granting fishing licenses to fishing vessels in the province reached over 91%; completing registration, inspection, and granting fishing licenses to 100% of fishing vessels; 100% of fishing vessels with a length of 15 meters or more have installed voyage monitoring devices. 24/7 monitoring on the system for fishing vessels operating at sea to promptly detect cases of disconnection and promptly notify the vessel owner. Directly inspected dozens of fishing vessels operating at sea; certified 1,206 fishing vessels exporting to ports; issued hundreds of receipts for loading and unloading aquatic products; issued 65 certificates of aquatic product origin and 5 certificates of aquatic product origin. Since the beginning of the year, Soc Trang province has had no fishing vessels illegally exploiting foreign waters.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien requested that coastal localities with fishing vessels operating at sea must strictly manage the fishing fleet at sea; fishing vessels operating at sea with the prescribed length must install navigation devices, and the entire political system must be mobilized to resolutely combat IUU fishing; consider and strictly handle cases of fishing at sea that do not comply with regulations on fishing at sea; strictly manage and handle ships entering and leaving the sea to exploit in violation of foreign waters according to the law; monitor the output of aquatic products when ships dock at port. Remove difficulties in tracing the origin of aquatic products and seafood exploited at sea in localities; resolutely punish acts of fishing at sea that violate regulations and laws; every month, localities must report on the situation of fishing at sea by the fleet...
