This is the first time that an exhibition on the richness and diversity of Vietnamese insects will be organized by two prestigious universities, opening up a valuable opportunity for the public to explore the world of insects in Vietnam. Held right at the time of the 2025 International Fireworks Festival, the "Colorful Diversity of Vietnamese Insects" Exhibition will be a meaningful activity for international visitors to know the beauty of biodiversity in Vietnam, while raising awareness of environmental protection and species conservation on earth.

Visitors will be able to see many rare collections of Vietnamese insects.

The exhibition "Diverse Colors of Vietnamese Insects" is organized based on the strengths of insect research at Duy Tan University and Da Lat University. Both universities have strong insect research groups and diverse and unique insect collections. Scientists from Duy Tan University and Da Lat University, with great enthusiasm, have traveled throughout the forests of Vietnam to thoroughly understand the habits, characteristics, and morphology of Vietnamese insect species. From here, many rare and unique insect species found only in dense forests and high mountains of Vietnam have been collected and preserved by the Entomology Research Group of Duy Tan University and Da Lat University.

Insects are a group of invertebrates that are important not only to nature but also to human life. However, not everyone is aware of the importance of insects. Not to mention that many people misunderstand insects, thinking that they are harmful or scary. Meanwhile, insects are an essential part of the ecosystem on Earth. Not all species are harmful, there are many species that are very useful for agriculture , medicine and the environment.

The exhibition "Diverse Colors of Vietnamese Insects" brings the most vivid visual learning opportunity for everyone to better understand insects. Right at the exhibition, there will be more than 150 photos and posters about insects:

  • Provides information on the ecological roles of insects such as pollination, decomposition, pest control...
  • Introducing applications of insects in life in medicine, food, art, biotechnology, etc.
  • Incorporate messages about climate change, pollution or factors affecting insect populations;
  • Spread and raise people's awareness in protecting nature and biodiversity.

Students enjoy learning about insects at Dalat University

More than 100 boxes of insect specimens from Vietnam will be introduced at this exhibition. Among them, Duy Tan University and Da Lat University will introduce rare forest insects such as:

  • Butterflies and moths
  • Beetles
  • Cicadas
  • Dragonflies...

More specifically:

  • The diverse collection includes more than 200 species of butterflies and moths of different sizes, shapes and colors. There are many rare specimens such as the Teinopalpus imperialis, the giant Monarch and the King butterfly.
  • Rare species of dragonflies include Duy Tan dragonfly (Coeliccia duytan) - currently only discovered in Chu Mom Ray National Park, Kon Tum province; Le Cong Co dragonfly (Coeliccia lecongcoi) - an endemic species only recorded in Ngoc Linh (Kon Tum) and Kon Ka Kinh National Park (Gia Lai). In addition, there are many species of dragonflies with high conservation value such as Black-winged forest dragonfly (Chlorogomphus nakamurai), Aritai forest dragonfly (Chlorogomphus aritai), Phoenix-winged forest dragonfly (Chlorogomphus papilio), etc.
  • Collection of giant beetles, typically the Three-horned Beetle (Chalcosoma caucasus), Five-horned Beetle (Eupatorus gracilicornis), or Flying Crab (Cheirotonus jansoni). These are rare beetles, living only in high mountain forest areas, are evidence of intact primary forest ecosystems.
  • Collection of other unique insects such as: Stick insects, Praying mantises, Grasshoppers, Cicadas, etc., diverse in types and species composition.

DTU and DLU scientists are dedicated to researching insects throughout Vietnam's forests.

To help viewers have a better understanding of the beauty and significance of Vietnamese insects, Duy Tan University and Dalat University will also organize a scientific seminar with the participation of:

  • Dr. Phan Quoc Toan: about forest insects and introducing the insect collections of Duy Tan University,
  • Dr. Tosaphol Saetung Keetapichayakul: about Duy Tan University's aquatic insect collection,
  • Dr. Kim Junggon: on cicadas, aphids, and stink bugs that harm plants at Duy Tan University,
  • Dr. Lee Hyun Suk: about agricultural insects and introducing insect collections at Dalat University...

ThS. Ho Thi Hang - Manager of the Insect Collection at Dalat University shared: " Insects are a group of organisms that play a very important role in life. For a long time, humans have used insects for many different purposes such as: bees for honey, silk, lac resin for dyeing, cordyceps for medicine, fruit flies as experimental subjects, etc. However, there are still many species of insects in nature that we do not know about, as well as their roles, functions and even the ability to apply them to human life. For example, most recently, scientists have discovered a species of caterpillar that can eat plastic and excrete organic matter that can be easily decomposed, bringing hope for treating plastic waste with biological products in the future. Therefore, insect research is bringing a lot of practical significance, not only in biology and ecology but also related to many fields and professions such as agriculture, forestry, medicine, conservation or food technology".
