(CPV) – The possibility of a Russia-US summit has emerged after Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump both left open the possibility of dialogue between the two sides. This is a positive signal of a sign of healing in the context of relations between the two powers at a low point.

On November 8, Russia's TASS news agency reported that during the plenary session of the 21st Annual Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club held in Sochi (Russia) on January 7, Russian President V. Putin congratulated Mr. D. Trump after he won the 2024 US presidential election, and left open the possibility of dialogue between the two sides. "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. D. Trump on his victory in the US presidential election," said Mr. V. Putin, affirming that he will work with any President chosen and trusted by the American people.
President V. Putin said he is ready to have a dialogue with President-elect D. Trump, but did not specify the form, time and location. Mr. V. Putin emphasized that he currently has no specific ideas, but the wishes to restore Russia-US relations and end the Ukraine crisis are still noteworthy contents.
Previously, on November 7, Russia's TASS news agency quoted the country's Foreign Minister - Mr. Sergei Lavrov, stating that Russia is ready to have an open dialogue with the US if a similar initiative is put forward by Washington, after Mr. D. Trump is re-elected.
"We have never refused to communicate with anyone. President V. Putin has also emphasized our position every time this topic has been raised. Dialogue is always better than isolating each other… We will listen to see if any proposals are made. I repeat that we are not the ones who broke off relations and have no authority to propose restoring them. If there is an initiative for the parties to sit down and have a frank conversation about positions and ways to move forward without any unilateral demands, we will be ready for that," Lavrov said.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that President V. Putin's congratulations on Mr. Trump's victory were an official message. In addition, Mr. Peskov did not rule out the possibility that President V. Putin would hold a dialogue with the US President-elect before Mr. Trump takes office on January 20, 2025. However, the spokesman ruled out the possibility of a direct dialogue between President V. Putin and Mr. Trump taking place soon. Mr. Peskov said that preparations for this meeting have not yet been made.
Meanwhile, in an interview with NBC News (USA) on November 7, President-elect D. Trump said he had not yet had a conversation with Russian President V. Putin, but did not rule out this possibility. Mr. D. Trump said: "I think we will talk to each other soon."
Mr. D. Trump said he had spoken with about 70 world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In his speech on the same day, Mr. D. Trump also revealed that he and outgoing President Joe Biden had agreed to have dinner together soon./.
