Hau Giang is located in the Mekong Delta, with a rich canal system and fertile land. In particular, with a developed canal system, access to clean water is easier, providing raw materials for food processing factories.

In addition, Hau Giang’s infrastructure is being heavily invested in, including road and river transport systems and seaports, which will facilitate the transportation of raw materials and food products out of the province. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of WestFood Company, said: With the policy of developing raw material areas on a large scale in Hau Giang, Westfood currently owns 150 hectares of King MD2 pineapple raw material areas in Phung Hiep district. Currently, the Company is implementing a project to develop 200 hectares of MD2 pineapple at Mua Xuan Farm (Mua Xuan Agricultural Joint Stock Company). In particular, the Company has signed a cooperation contract with Phung Hiep district to develop MD2 pineapple with an area of 2,000 hectares. The presence of Westfood factory in Hau Giang will be a driving force for Westfood to continue promoting the development of raw material areas, not only King MD2 pineapple but also many other agricultural products in Hau Giang.

Westfood Hau Giang Factory is built in Song Hau Industrial Park - Phase 1, Dong Phu Commune, Chau Thanh District, with an area of about 7 hectares, a total investment of more than 666 billion VND, and a capacity of 120 tons of finished products/day. The factory is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2025.

In addition, the state's preferential policies for businesses investing in the food industry are also an important factor in encouraging the development of this industry in Hau Giang. Policies include tax exemptions, financial support and other types of support to reduce financial pressure on businesses.

The Party and the State always stand side by side, providing many preferential policies such as reducing taxes, fees, charges; supporting credit, interest rates; simplifying administrative procedures. In particular, the policy to support start-up and innovative businesses is implemented effectively, creating a favorable business environment and sustainable development for businesses.

Future development prospects

According to statistics, in the first month of 2024, the industrial production value was 3,311 billion VND, an increase of 0.07% compared to the previous month and an increase of 28.16% over the same period. In particular, the production index of the food processing industry increased by 1.15% compared to the previous month and an increase of 32.56% over the same period. The reason is that the province is currently prioritizing the development of the agricultural and aquatic product processing industry with competitive advantages and using local raw materials such as milling, processing frozen seafood, producing canned fruit, processing custard apple tea, processing snakehead fish, etc. Along with that, the province encourages functional sectors to create favorable conditions to promote enterprises that are investing to start operating soon according to the plan set by the enterprise such as: Masan Group Joint Stock Company (producing pasta, vermicelli, spices of all kinds).

Contributing to the industry production index, Minh Phu - Hau Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company said: Production and business activities in the past year faced many difficulties, but still achieved positive results. Specifically, the production output in 2023 was 21,216 tons, reaching 96.4% of the yearly plan. In addition, the company still tries to create jobs for 5,500 workers with stable income.

In addition to processing and manufacturing to serve the domestic market, with investment in infrastructure and strict supply chain management, Hau Giang products are now present on the dining tables of many countries around the world. Some typical foods include: frozen seafood, dried mango, dried pineapple... which are popular and famous products with their quality and unique flavor. The appearance of these products on international dining tables is a strong affirmation of the quality of Hau Giang food in the international market.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of Ba Suong - Long My Company Limited, each month, the company purchases 300-500 tons of various fruits for processing. In addition to the domestic market, the company's four main products including dried mango, dried papaya, dried pineapple, and dried mango with chili salt are also receiving many positive responses in the markets of Eastern Europe, China, Korea, Thailand, etc.

In the spirit of cooperation and innovation, the food industry in Hau Giang has strong potential for development. With natural resources, good infrastructure and support from the government, the food industry in Hau Giang promises to be one of the important driving forces for the development of the province's economy, while contributing to the overall development of the country.
