King Charles continues cancer treatment
In the latest update on the king’s health since he was hospitalized in March 2025, a senior royal aide said the 76-year-old monarch is maintaining a busy schedule of royal duties while continuing to manage his health, most recently making a two-day trip to Canada, where he is head of state, with Queen Camilla.
The aide continued: "What you learn about this disease is that you have to control it and that's exactly what he's doing. Medicine has made incredible advances and I really don't see any difference in him, as long as he does what the doctors say, lives as normal a life as possible. That's exactly what the king is doing."
King Charles publicly announced that he had cancer in February 2024. After a brief absence, he resumed public appearances before returning to public life in April 2024.
On March 27, 2025, he was admitted to hospital in London. "Following scheduled treatment for cancer, His Majesty experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital," Buckingham Palace confirmed.
Palace aides did not provide further details about his specific condition or treatment plan, but sources said the king's recovery was progressing positively.
After cancelling several scheduled events, King Charles embarked on outings following a few days in hospital.
The senior royal aide said King Charles' visit to Canada was his first since ascending the throne in 2022. "It's a re-establishment and reaffirmation of the relationship with Canada. The king saw so many people coming and was so happy to see them, which was wonderful. Nearly three years since his accession, people have been impressed with the king and the role he plays. He has dealt with his illness in a very human way and the way he interacts with the public is admirable," the aide added.

The highlight of King Charles' visit to Canada was his historic speech at the State Opening of Parliament , where he became the second monarch to give a speech after his mother, Queen Elizabeth – who did so in October 1957.
Ailsa Anderson, former press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth, told People that King Charles could "give a masterclass in diplomacy ." "The king's speech was very well-executed," Anderson concluded.
