Reading a speech at the commemoration ceremony, Chairman of Tien Phuoc District People's Committee Tram Que Huong recalled the glorious past in the Cay Coc struggle. On July 21, 1954, the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of the Indochina war was signed, but the US imperialists set up the puppet government of Ngo Dinh Diem in South Vietnam, permanently dividing the country, turning South Vietnam into a new type of American colony. They declared the abolition of the agreement, no general election negotiations and blatantly terrorized, suppressed, and brutally killed cadres, party members and people.

During the 9 years of fighting against the French, Tien Phuoc became an area occupied by the French Union army with the intention of suppressing the revolution. The French Union army and the enemy came to take over, sending soldiers to occupy important positions, including at Cay Coc, the enemy sent Battalion 601 of Regiment 31 to station.

On September 27, 1954, the Nationalist Party forces in Tien Phuoc district came to arrest comrade Nguyen Thong, a party member and cadre of the resistance against the French in Tien Tho commune, and brought him to the house of Ngo Ngoc Huong for questioning. Upon hearing that comrade Thong had been arrested, the people of Cay Coc organized a struggle to demand his release. Faced with the strong fighting spirit of the people, Battalion 601 stationed in Tien Tho panicked and intervened, forcing the Nationalist Party forces to release comrade Nguyen Thong and return him home.

On September 29, 1954, the Kuomintang forces arrested comrade Nguyen Thong again. However, after only about an hour, the news of comrade Thong's arrest spread very quickly everywhere and a large number of people were present to fight and demand the enemy to comply with the Geneva Agreement, to fulfill the following demands: to ensure that people could travel and do business normally; to allow people to light lamps, make hay and thresh rice at night; and not to arrest and terrorize former resistance fighters in revenge.

At 9:00 a.m. on September 29, 1954, some people from Tam Ky went to Cay Coc market to beat drums and gongs to gather people around the market to fight. In the communes of Tien Phong, Tien My, Tien Ky, Tien Tho, Tien Lap, we could not stop the massive flow of people coming to Cay Coc market, so the fight still broke out.

More than 330 of our compatriots and loyal party members fell in the Cay Coc struggle in the last days of September 1954, a heinous crime committed by the invading American imperialists and their traitorous lackeys.
