China’s special envoy for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, called the three countries representatives of the “Global South” and “important forces in promoting world peace,” in a view that echoes China’s. “They have maintained communication with both Russia and Ukraine and are committed to resolving the crisis through dialogue and negotiation,” he said.

China and Brazil have previously put forward a joint peace plan that calls for a peace conference with both Ukraine and Russia and does not expand the battlefield.
China and Russia were absent from a peace conference hosted by Ukraine in Switzerland in June. Russia was not invited. China decided not to attend precisely because Russia was not invited.
Mr. Li Hui also criticized Western support for Ukraine. “All sides are concerned that the West continues to loosen the conditions for Ukraine to attack Russian territory with supported weapons.”
The US and NATO have accused China of supporting Russia in the war in Ukraine. Last week, the US expanded sanctions on several Chinese companies over alleged dealings with Russia. China has denied the allegations.
