Wang Yi expressed hope that the Japanese side will eliminate interference from all sides, sending a positive message that China-Japan relations are on a healthy development track and are being revived.
Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China is concerned that relations with Japan could deteriorate.
During a meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda in Beijing on March 31, Wang Yi urged Japan to "eliminate interference from all sides."
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship, "but today we have reason to be concerned about the possibility of a regression in Japan's policy toward China," Wang Yi said.
Wang Yi expressed hope that "the Japanese side will eliminate interference from all sides, send a positive message that China-Japan relations are on a healthy development track and are being revitalized, and create conditions for the full resumption of post-pandemic interactions in all areas."
For his part, Mr. Fukuda, who served as Prime Minister of Japan in 2007-2008 and was in China to attend the Boao Forum for Asia, affirmed that the Japan-China relationship plays a "very important" role and the two sides need to "maintain high-level communication... enhance mutual understanding, eliminate misunderstandings and miscalculations"./.
