Thai midfielder not allowed to attend MU match

The reason is that the club Odense (Denmark) refused to release Nicholas Mickelson because the match was not on the FIFA Days schedule. At the time of the friendly match between ASEAN All Stars and MU, this team was still in an important competition period.

Odense have five games left until May 24 to defend their top spot in the Danish First Division and secure promotion to the Superliga. In that context, they cannot afford to let a key player like Mickelson leave the team. The Thai-born player has played 26 games since the start of the season, contributing five assists and playing the second most minutes in the squad.

Although Odense’s final match of the season was on May 24, four days before the ASEAN All Stars clash with MU, the risk of injury and poor physical condition meant the club was unwilling to take the risk. Therefore, Mickelson was forced to miss this highly anticipated match.

Initially, Thailand was expected to have three players in the Southeast Asian All-Star Team, but with Mickelson unable to participate, only two names remain: goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai and midfielder Peeradon Chamratsamee. Thus, Thailand will only have the same number of representatives as Cambodia and Indonesia, while Vietnam and Malaysia each have three players.

It is not impossible that in the near future, there will be other names withdrawing due to similar circumstances. Most recently, coach Mano Polking did not want Quang Hai to play against MU due to the tight schedule in V.League and Southeast Asian Cup.

The match between ASEAN All-Stars and Manchester United is scheduled to take place on May 28 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Malaysia. Coach Kim Sang Sik will lead the ASEAN All-Stars squad in this match.
